I have a 2 story house that in the spring I need to get up on. I have a ladder that extends to 16 feet.

What is the length of ladder I need?

What is the foundation elevation?

3' above the roof at the point it's addressed.

So, let me do some MATH, FOR YOU; if you have 8' ceilings on both stories, that's 16', plus 4' for the foundation and 1st floor platform, is 20', plus 1' for the 2nd floor platform, that's 21', plus 3' above the roof eve, that's 24', and because the ladder will set at an angle, and depending upon what angle you are comfortable with, 1 or 2 more feet, so that's 25' or 26'.

So just buy, or rent a 30' ladder.

See how tough that was.

Some days, basic math is hard. Thank you. Closest one is 32 feet, so that'll be the one I will get.

Standing those can be a treat by yourself, rent it have it delivered and get that guy to help put it up and take it down.

there is a trick to putting up a ladder by yourself , put the bottom against the house , and put the rest perpendicular to the house , then go to the end away from the house, and lift up the ladder and walk with your hands on the rungs until you are at the house and the ladder id fully raised against the house . then facing the house lift the ladder ever so slightly and walked backwards letting the ladder rest against the house. once you are back enough set the ladder down. check that the base is on solid ground ,

I have friends. I have beer. It will go up safely.

Keep the beer in the frig until the work is done .

Another , more expensive solution ( but most likely safer ) is to borrow or rent a lift .

Wyr
God bless

Beer stays in the fridge till we are done. I am not wanting to rent a lift.

I've raised a long extension ladder myself (when I was much younger). The smart thing to do is get help, but I wasn't too smart or maybe I was just independent back then, Yea, that's it, I was independent.
BTW: it can get away from you real easy doing it one man. Once it goes sideways there's no stopping it, or so I've been told. Having extra lifters that can double as spotters and taker downers at the end of the project is a sound idea.
