Tried to turn on the gas fireplace for the first time this season and it wouldn't ignite after about 10 seconds. Did a deep cleaning last year and replaced the ember material. Took the cover off and did a light cleaning and made sure nothing was covering up the holes. Cleaned the tips of the ignition components to remove any soot and checked that the ignitor creates a spark. All OK. Re-lit pilot and started fireplace without any problem. Cleaned the glass cover and put it back on thinking I was good to go. Turned on the fireplace and again it didn't light. Pulled the glass back off and the fireplace lit without a problem...

Anyone have any idea why the fireplace wouldn't be able to light with the glass on? Is it an airflow thing? I'm just confused why that would keep it from lighting and when I put the glass on while it was already lit, the fireplace stayed on without any problem. Searching for information online and everything assumes the fireplace is completely unable to light, which isn't the case since I was able to start it 3 separate times. My fireplace model is a Heat N Glo 7000TR. Any information would be much appreciated!

do you have a fireplace with fresh air in , if so then the fresh air intake is blocked .

I actually got off the phone with their customer support team and they suggested the same thing. The distance from the fireplace vent to the outside exhaust is very short since the exhaust almost directly behind the fireplace on the outside of the house rather than up through the roof. Is this something I can get to with a shop vac?

Don't know you have got to look , check the outside for debris .

Is the intake screened?
Could be a birds nest, mouse nest, wasp nest.

Even if something was blocked it should still fire up but only briefly, then it would shut down. This issue it wouldn't fire whatsoever?
Did u ever solve this one? I have what sounds like the same setup and sometimes I have to open the bottom grille and tap on the temp sensor wire and it fires right up.

Because the fireplace stayed lit when you put the glass back on shows that it is not an airflow problem. When you put the glass on it interferes with the ignition system. I would look at anyplace where the glass connects to the firebox and see if there is any part of the ignition system that is being interfered with or moved by the glass.

Yeah, I took the customer support's advice about cleaning out the air intake. Since it's such a short distance from the fireplace to the outside exhaust, I just took off the glass and went in to the vent with a shop vac through the front. After that, I haven't had trouble starting the fireplace normally. My plan if that didn't work was to seal off the vent opening in the fireplace, remove the outside exhaust cover, and try to shop vac as much as possible, but that wasn't necessary.
