This is not strictly a house, but you can live in it, and it is not a repair, but I hope I can get some help anyway. I had a contractor build a shop for me. I am going to use it to repair cars, my hobby. It has a bathroom, but it isn't finished. I'd like to do that myself and learn some more skills, tiling. As you will see from my picture, I have a concrete floor and the plumbing for a sink. I was thinking I would have a go at tiling the floor. You can't see it in the RH corner, but there is a toilet installed directly on the concrete. My questions:

1. If I am going to tile, would remove the toilet and and tile the floor and put it back, or tile around the toilet?

2. For the cabinet and sink I have picked out, do I tile first and then set the cabinet on the tile, or do I place the cabinet and sink and tile around that?

It will be much easier to remove the toilet, install the tile then reset the toilet. Making all those cuts would be a nightmare. I'd suggest tiling under the sink cabinet, you may want to change it someday to either a larger or smaller one.

Thank you. Great advice, which I will take. I'll remove the toilet and start by tiling the floor.

If your going to be doing any painting, do that first before tiling, there's no since in getting paint all over your tile.
Why tile instead of something like vinyl strip flooring that that would take far less time, money and would be easier to clean?

Thank you for your advice. I'll have a look at vinyl strip flooring. My wife wants to paint it. So I will tell her she gets to go first.

I installed it in a kitchen in a house I was renting out, an I'm now back living in it because the past renters had somehow destroyed the old floor.
It's been there for years and still looks like new.
