hi guys good morning.
How can I get rid of these birds that just sit and crap on the very top peak ridge vent on my roof?!? They're mainly on the last few feet of the ridge before the roof ends.
I know they're probably just soaking up some roof heat but no other house on my street has birds on the roof all winter long lol. I don't want them up because they make a lot of noise and I just hate birds in general.

I saw them "bird spike" things but that seems hoaky to me. I'm thinking about going up there with a baggy of 40 thumbtacks and dabbing some caulk drops in small cluster along last 3ft of ridge on both ends. Pretty sure They won't wanna berch anymore.

Anyone successfully got rid of roof birds please share your experience. Thx

Try putting some moth balls in an old pair of panty hose and hanging it on the roof. I've had good results on a house that use to have roosting crows on their roof. Works good for keeping squirrels away too.

Thanks for the info guys. I think what I'm gonna do is put a bead of
Silicon caulk on the top of the ridge. After that I'll imbed a line of thumb tacks into it spaced out about 2" for a length of about 4ft as it seems that the birds cluster up about 4-5 a time only on the ends of the roof. Hopefully this will deter them before the high-power pellet gun will. Here's a pic of the mission

I would advise against putting caulk on top of the shingles. The caulk over time will cause the granules to release from the shingle and compromise the integrity of the capping. Just my 2 cents.

Really? Didn't know that. How about a tube of blackjack roofing tar?

Any caulk applied to daylight will eventually cause damage to shingles and capping. I've seen it for 25 years, well meaning repairs causing future damage. Silicone and asphalt based caulks shrink as they age, when they do, they pull the granules along with them. Roofing cement is a good adhesive as long as it's not exposed to UV light. Mothballs or the replent Bud posted is not harmful or counterproductive.

That bird b gone stuff might work, or spikes.

But they will probably just move a few feet down to an open spot, so you might end up adding more and more.

Maybe flash tape, or something else moving and sparkly up there might help also.
Tied to a fishing line string from the chimney, or a string tied between plumbing vents or attic vents.

they sell bird spikes at Home Depot. No reason to get that sticky crap that will leave an unsightly stain and bird carcasses. most of my neighbors use the bird spikes, and just tack a few to the leading edges where birds congregate. They will go somewhere else.

My neighbor used that bird glue awhile back. The guy behind him had homing pigeons. The birds landed on the wall where the neighbor placed the glue, and it killed the homing pigeons. Not a very neighborly thing to do, and now there are two neighbors who hate each other.

My mom had birds roosting in the blocking of her carport roof and we tried everything. Once they built a nest she wouldn’t let me knock them down so each year I had to play a waiting game before serving the eviction notice. I cleaned all the mess out in the fall and ran a bead of that sticky bird b gone on the tops of the blocks and the problem was solved for the next 20 years.

Fishing line seems to work for larger waterfowl if you run it a couple a feet above a small pond.

I have also seen a lot of people use a fake owl sitting on a perch or chimney.

If you are going to go to the trouble of getting up there with a caulking gun just squirt the bird b gone down and forget the thumbtacks. Birds are used to pricker bushes what they don’t like is their feathers getting sticky.

This is what I use...

I've seen a seagull get impaled by those spike strips.
I use a fake owl the only downside is that you have to move it from time to time.

My neighbor was tired of having the neighbor behind him allowing his prized "homing pigeons" crapping all over his wall. He used that repellent on top of the wall, and the next morning every pigeon owned by the guy behnd him was found dead, on top of the fence. They had become stuck in the glue

Well I guess that solved the problem.

The stuff I used I found a few fine feathers and grass and leaves and bugs stuck to it after a couple years, but no birds. I got some on my hands putting it on and it didn’t seem like it would be a good glue more like a sticky grease. :coffee:
