Hello. I want to replace (1) 3-way toggle light switch with a wifi smart 3-way switch so that I can control my exterior garage lights with Alexa voice or just my phone. In researching, there are many brands and styles. I want to stay with a toggle switch style. Some say they are for a 3 wire set and others a 4 wire set up. I haven't looked at the configuration of my switch just yet. Any suggestions on brand and type? I utilize Alexa for other lighting needs in the house.

Thank you.

I have 10+ switches all of which are Kasa: Kasa Smart 3 Way Switch HS210. Setup is relatively painless and they work really well with Alexa and a couple other wi-fi enabled items (Phillips bulbs and amazon outlets). They also have a dimmer switch version which is very cool too. We have our under cabinet LED lights on a dimmer which automatically dim when we go to bed.

Do need to check your wiring first as they all require a ground wire to be present (so 3-way switch would have 4 wires - hot, traveler, neutral & (bare) ground)

So the 3-way switch I want to replace looks like this (see pic). 4 wires. 1 ground; 2 hot; 2 line. No neutral. Can you recommend a smart switch that would be compatible? I want a toggle switch style. I did look at the C by GE and I read where all switches on the same circuit would have to be replaced for the smart switches to work. I am not interested in replacing all the light switches.

Burgy - image in post #3 looks more like a 4 way switch and not a 3 way.
From how many different locations can you control the exterior garage lights?

If two locations then only 3 way switches would be used.
If three or more locations then only two 3 way switches and single or multiple 4 way switches would be used.

That is a four way switch. You can't use the three in that position. You need to pick one of the other two switches for smart switch.
The neutral will be the bundle of white wires in the back of the box.

You are correct. I forgot about the 3rd switch. New addition and haven't used the 3rd switch yet. Is it possible to put a smart light switch in to replace one of those 4-way switches?

Thanks for everyone's help, Ended up buying a Martin Jerry brand 3-way smart switch to replace 1 of the 3-way switches in the 4-way circuit. The 3-way switch that I replaced had the power from the breaker box coming in to it so it was the 1st switch in the 4-way circuit. Works like a charm. $18 Amazon or you can buy direct from martin jerry's website.
