Need a recommendation for a dedicated mulching blade for a 22" self-propelled walk behind mower. The combo blade bags and side discharges well, but mulching is mediocre and it's what I use most often. I trust the online reviews I've read as much as I trust gas vending machine sushi.

Thanks. This a Craftsman with a single blade. Hoping to get a dedicated mulching blade.
The key is not letting the grass get too high, which can be a challenge in spring when it is growing fast. In the summer not really a problem as the grass goes dormant without putting down a lot of water every week.

Your mower might be able to handle a double blade, you'd need to check the bolt spacing and exact size of the blades to make sure. Keeping them sharp makes a big difference. A bench grinder is definitely worth the money in this regard.

Have a bench grinder and the blade is always sharp. I've not seen any double blades that would fit this mower, however. I try not to let the grass get too high, but sometimes Spring rains prevent cutting in a timely manner. I could cut in two stages, but I'm not THAT dedicated. The search continues......

I've owned a lawn care company for over 15 years. I've tried the double blades, adding a mulching deck and blades to the mower and it always was a mess. Just cut the lawn at 4" and it will look better and choke out the weeds.

My Honda came with the double blades. I usually mulch and cut the grass at the highest setting. I've never had a problem with thatch or with clumping grass clippings. If the grass got ahead of me in the spring I'd go back and recut it perpendicular to the first cut. I occasionally bag it and use the clippings to increase the greens in my compost bin or as mulch in my garden bed. I can't bag it all the time as it would quickly overwhelm my single compost bin.

I'm going to try cutting high this year and will put the Mulch kit on soon. Most of the lawn now is less than 4" though, so maybe I'll wait until next weekend to start.

My 60 year old lawnmower seems to need a new condenser, has weak spark, and condenser is way out of spec. in uF... everyone in USA wants to sell me an ignition kit plus $8.50 shipping... place in France seems willing to sell me just the condenser plus $2.95 shipping to USA...
I get stuff shipped from China for $1.25...
Shipping in USA has gone insane... anything bigger than a 1 ounce letter starts around $10 now... I don't ship presents to relatives any more, just send them money and ask them to buy locally...

Yep, Amazon killed our rates by getting sweetheart deals from the USPS. I was selling on Ebay and the price of Media mail tripled right when Amazon started becoming a household name. I couldn't sell anymore because everybody in business switched to free shipping. I couldn't do that.

Of course, UPS and FEDEX weren't going to just keep their rates low.

60 year old lawnmower is impressive. I would guard that more than a car.

My new mower won't start... and metal blade housing is cracked... old one has starter rope that pulls straight up... usually starts first pull... automatic choke... no pushing of a rubber bulb 10 times...

I bid on this old 5 HP motor on eBay... minimum was $17.30... and nobody was bidding... then got buyers remorse as realized shipping quoted at $56... for a few $$ more than that total, can buy a brand new modern 6 1/2 HP motor in a couple of different brands... fortunately a 'watcher' noticed my bid and bid 50c over me... saving me!
I inquired of the seller if lower priced, slower shipping available but he said no... I know big shippers pay vastly less than that... even to get our 'returns'...
