Water testing

Does anyone know of a company in Ontario Canada that does water testing above and beyond "safe to drink"? I am looking for what minerals are in the water pre and post filtration.

Water testing is typically done to meet some regulatory standard. If it is a drinking water standard, the report should include a concentration for each mineral and/or chemical analyzed that is part of that standard. Different regulatory standards include different analytes and different levels of analytical accuracy to meet the standard (e.g. drinking water standards typically include fewer analytes and higher analytical limits than a hazardous waste standard). An analysis that only needs to identify the analyte concentration down to 1 mg/kg is going to be cheaper than an analysis down to 1ug/kg. There should be plenty of analytical laboratories in your area. Explain to a lab what you want to do, and why, and they might help you out. Remember though that they are in a competitive business and they will be helping you more as a public service than because of profit - your tiny piece of business is very likely more trouble to them than it is worth.

Local Water Dept. kept sending out reports claiming we had best water in the country... Then I find out it's deadly poison and what was killing me. Ever enlarging liver, ever more severe liver pain, diarrhea 12 times a day in the end. My shirts wouldn't button up across my lower chest any more, getting too big there, bigger than my belly. Switching to bottled water stopped the pain in a couple days... don't know how much the liver size will go back down. Have to watch ice made from city water that it doesn't melt too much into my drinks.

I have seen you post this before. I was curious if you have sent the water out for testing? I was supplied by the same municipal system as you for a long time and never had any issues. I was curious what you attributed it to, if it was something specific. I know we had the issue with the toxic algea bloom in 2014 and that was an issue for some individuals. We never had a problem in our household and I don't know anyone personally that did.

You can take a water sample to a private lab to have it tested for basic contaminates or broad spectrum contaminates which can run a few hundred dollars but they will give you a printed analysis of what they find and usually give you a recommendation.

To see the vast number of things tested in the US, look for the Consumer Confidense Report (CCR) for the company or group who supplies your water. This is assuming your are not on a private well where you need to have the testing done. I think that Canadamostlikely has a very near same requirement, so do some looking there if it applies. Likely to have a differentname, though?

This is the CCR for my current area and I have no real questions about it.
One point that I have found is that folks often complain the most about the things they know little about!!

At one point, I was the VOLUNTEER in charge of a local water supply for about 100 meters and as such we were often blamed for the things we did. We had a yearly meeting where we tried to explain things like the CCR. Amazing amount of ignorance came out in those meetings!

One year I tried to explain the term "total turbidity" as the amount of dirt or soil left in the water after filtering.
Things got real hostile then and several assured me I knew nothing about their neighborhood because THEIR water came out of a well and ran all the way to THEIR house in pipes! It damn sure didn't run in the ground!
One fellow even went so far as to say he was going to get me fired for being so dumb!!

He may have been right because I STILL don't know what Beta/Photon Emitters are or if I've ever met one???
So I tend to let smarter people deal with testing them!
