Happy new years all, just installed a new delta shower body. on the plastic guide ring that is used as a template to bring your finish wall to, there are instructions to "remove bosses before installing" I called delta up and they didn't know what it meant and I asked a plumbing friend and he didn't know either. so does anyone have any ideas? thanks

At first I thought you were looking for InspectorD...he's out gathering maple syrup...

Can you post a pic of the "bosses" you are talking about?

boss 2 (bôs, bs)
n.
1. A circular protuberance or knoblike swelling, as on the horns of certain animals.
2. A raised area used as ornamentation.
3. Architecture A raised ornament, such as one at the intersection of the ribs in a vaulted roof.
4.
a. An enlarged part of a shaft to which another shaft is coupled or to which a wheel or gear is keyed.
b. A hub, especially of a propeller.
tr.v. bossed, boss·ing, boss·es
To emboss.

Something got lost in translation remove the plastic and the screws as you need those screw holes to attach the trim. This one of those times where less reading would have been better.

Yeah, funny that Delta support couldn't clarify. "Bosses" are the protective covers for the valve or cartridge during shipping. What can be confusing is when the plaster guard is connected to the bosses and it too is removed when it should remain as part of the rough install.
It's kind of a vague and yet specific reference when installing different brands of shower, lav or kitchen valves.
nealtw goes on to the bonus round.

Funny how these people want anybody to be able to use their products, then they hire a PHD to write the instruction. They would do better to explain it to a couple high school drop outs and let them write the instruction.

Napoleon had a guy like that with him constantly.

Others asked him why.

He said that if this guy understood an order then any and all could.

thanks for all the responses. I can sleep better at night, now that that's been clarified. why couldn't they used plain english when describing the protective cone.

It might have been translated from a foreign language.
