    refinishing stair treads

joecaption, you say that water-base won't last as long. In your experience, how long do two coats of water-based finish last for? We have pets that go up and down, so every other step won't work so well. -> How long does regular poly need to dry enough for stocking feet and pets to walk on...

Adding a new 15A circuit to this panel

There may be a grounding wire and grounding rod (or tied into rebar when foundation was laid) at the meter outside. That was my point. The large aluminum conductor is the common Neutral conductor

Adding a new 15A circuit to this panel

I do not see a large gauge grounding wire in the picture and I "assume" that the ground rod is outside at the meter, which we cannot see. The small sound wires entering at the bottom would not be sufficient by code (I believe requires a 4 AWG ground minimum) to handle a major current flow...

    Random vent that goes outside

The fresh make-up air vent to the outside is usually ducted to the return air plenum of the furnace with a damper to control how much is pulled in. It doesn't see right to have a one way vent cover outside (that will block air coming in, not air going out) and then dump cold, unconditioned air...

Running a 240v sub panel to garage for car charger

Very helpful and also consistent with my thoughts, so I am glad to have them supported by your opinions. I will pull a permit on this and get it inspected by the city inspector.

Running a 240v sub panel to garage for car charger

I’ll check the code. Do you think metal conduit it legal running along the fence?

Running a 240v sub panel to garage for car charger

I know about separating the ground and the neutral bus, because there is the potential for electrical potential differences between ground and neutral at that distance. I will check to see whether I need a separate ground rod outside the garage. I cannot see how it would hurt, though, to have...

Running a 240v sub panel to garage for car charger

Metal conduit can be 6" but bare UF or plastic conduit must be 24"

Running a 240v sub panel to garage for car charger

We moved into a new home with a 200 amp main panel. The garage is detached behind the house about 30 feet and I need to run a 240 v high capacity line to a subpanel. The estimated max load will be total 80 amp serving up to a 50 amp level 2 charger plus shop tools: 220v 3hp is largest...
