How many folks use the energy saving bulbs?

I think most of ours are the Nvision brand from Home Depot. I love the 9 year warranty. I had one big 26w (100w equiv) bulb burn out prematurely since it was in a clothes closet being switched on/off all the time. I went to the manufacturer website, put in the info from the receipt and bulb...

Can I remove rust from this box?..

TxBuilder is right. Don't mess with it. I've seen too many American Picker, Pawn Stars, and other shows like that. It seems like most of the time you reduce the value of something old by "trying" to restore it. I would try Craigslist first and repost the ad a few times over the next month...

    central air outside fan quits

That is an odd scenario. The cheapest thing to replace first in the troubleshooting process would be the run capacitor. You'll find it inside the condenser unit and it looks like a large battery with wires attached to terminals on the top. If it is bulging or leaking, then it is about to...

Carrier A/C tries to kick on, fan not running.

It sounds to me like the capacitor has given out. It's a very common problem. The capacitor looks like a large battery and helps the fan motor and/or compressor start up. Here's what they look like. You can buy a new one at an HVAC supply company. Just be sure to discharge the old cap...

Are wood burning stoves worth the money?

I live in Florida, but we spent a few months in a vacation rental in a cold climate. It had an old wood burner for heating the home. So I did some reading about how to best use it and also plenty of articles in the local newspaper about effectively heating a home. It seems like the wood...

Does anyone in here like to watch Dirty Jobs?

I always get the new ones on my Tivo, along with Mythbusters and now I'm starting to become addicted to Swamp People. Pawn Stars is another guilty pleasure. I can't believe how little money those people accept for their stuff after the expert says it is worth so much more.

What are you wearing right now?

25 inch Panasonic Tube TV video not working right

I'd agree with boogeyman. But check Craigslist.org or Backpage.com for people actually giving them away for free or selling them for very low prices before buying one from a retail store like Goodwill.

How Can You Get Rid of Cockroaches?

We had a horrible cockroach problem in a condo that we rented for a month in the tropics. The thing that worked the best and longest was this poison gel that looked like peanut butter. I put a tiny dab everywhere that a cockroach might like to walk or hide like along the baseboards...

    Taking care of the bees

You could try getting one of these bee trap things that I've seen in Walmart or Target.

    Mice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lawnmowers

We had a problem with mice at a vacation home we rented recently. I went out and got one of these "better mouse traps" and baited it with peanut butter in the garage. It seemed to catch one mouse every few days and we never saw another one in the house. :)

How to clean mesh office chairs?

I would also give the chairs a quick mist of Febreze after the cleaning for that fresh "just cleaned" scent so people take notice of the work.

    Favorite Childhood Toy

I had a Red Ryder BB gun like that too. Plus a c02 tank powered semi-auto pistol and a c02 powered rifle. My brother and I used to shoot soda cans all day long in the summer. But my favorite childhood toy was a nitro (gas) powered Traxxas RC stadium truck when I was in middle school...

    Hobbies other than home repair.

Nice bike! I had a Yamaha R6 crotch rocket for about 9 years. Sold it for extra honeymoon money. Now I wish I had it back. :( Same bike as in my avatar -

    Yard Games

I'm in a college town right now, so the most popular yard game is cornhole aka bean bag toss. Cornhole - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
