Simple question.. I looked a little ways in the threads.. Anyways, I have a pellet stove in basement ( my heat for the home) Which way do I set my fan at the top of stairs, clockwise, or counter clockwise to suck some heat up from basement..:help:

I guess the simple answer would to turn the fan on and see which side blows.

The potential problem is that when you draw heated air out of the basement, where is the replacement air coming from? I would think if you could add a floor vent in the main floor away from the basement door so you'll replace the air being sucked out by the fan. Gives you a circulatory air flow loop.

Ok, then the hole in the bedroom should probably be the one returning the air.. or maybe I should make a new hole in the living room some where, also have two holes in the bathroom..

Carefull here just leaving open holes between floors greatly increases the risk of spreading fire on a bad day.
There are rules and codes on this stuff, that I cannot help with but my first thought would be to run ducts from those holes either seperately or joined into something bigger and dump the air close to the basement floor at a good distance from the stove.

I'm assuming you have a furnace in the basement and the wood is supplemental even if it is 100% of your heat. If you do have a furnace it would have cold air return and also ducting for heat and a blower. You may be able to use it in a blower only mode with a few mods to move the heat up. If nothing else add a open close vent to the cold return.

Nope, no furnace, We heated all last year with a box wood stove, but found it very hard with my and the wife's injuries, so we switched to a pellet stove, so much easier, and so much better for controlling the temperture..

Back to the question that was asked. The blades are set on an angle and the leading edge pulls the air, so in the winter the lower edge wants to be leading.
