I have to add a double 3.5"×7.25" lvl in my basem3nt with 2 new 3" adjustable columns. I have no lvl experience. What's the proper way to nails lvls tog3ther? And what's the proper way to attach them to a metal column?

Nails are not the method. You should use alternating thru bolts (1/2"), 24" o.c., meaning you stagger the placement up and down to minimize the separation potential in the fibers. I would certainly use polyurethane adhesive in a wave pattern in between. PL Premium Plus construction adhesive works great. In this case, I would directly contact the manufacturer of your LVLs for their recommended technique.

That is question for the engineer, most time they just want them nailed with a spacific pattern and sometimes they want bolts and other times they don't want holes in them for bolts or anything else. Best to talk to the guy that will either pass or fail the job.
I will ask the question. But at this point , the drawings are done , there will be no inspection. The building inspector is who I will have to deal with.

Up here, if the engineer gets his hands on anything, It is up to him to inspect it and write a report for the inpector. But if that is the case ask the building inspector what he wants for the beam lam.
CallMeVilla's suggestion to use PL Premium is right on the spot. That is exactly what I did when I used LVL. Just make sure you take the gloss off with the sand paper on the sides which will be glued together. Otherwise the adhesion will be very poor.
As for bolts, screws or nails I would contact the manufacturer first and then maybe talk to an inspector to make sure he is OK as well.
