Hello and thanks for accepting me into your forum.

Please see picture of the chimney in question below, built in 1957. The main concern is that although the bricks are generally okay, the mortar towards the top is being damaged after each winter. I would say that the mortar has receded in places by up to 20 mm on some layers. Some bricks have signs of damage, but the stack seems stable and no cracks.

The building is a dorma bungalow and access is not easy without a frame. The chimney is in view now that a glass roof conservatory was installed last Year so it is always on my mind

Can anyone advise is there a temporary fix to slow down damage ?. i was thinking if i sprayed the brick with a repellant. I'm just concerned about the costs of repair. The chimney is not in use.

Any ideas would be very appreciated.

Thankyou

Tony

Hi Stuart and thanks for your reply. The only access is an alely way that divides the neighbour from me, The chimney is located on one end near to the alley way

I think the "location" was more geographical, but your response lends itself to a broader coordination response.

Some trades do their own scaffolding, while others farm it out.

Never the less, if the alley is in frequent use both by adjacent neighbors or for municipal services such as waste collection, it needs to be noted and addressed.

Additionally, potential roof damage should be a concern.

The repair should be a two day project.

Thanks, that was what I meant as it looks like somewhere in the UK, but the area can greatly affect the price.
