The back porch of my house curves around the north and west corner of my house. This means it gets a lot of wind-driven rain, and also quite a bit of sun in summer, but not the strong sun like on the south side of the house.

Result is that I get mildew on the porch railings and floorings, which are painted with latex paint. I've used bleach to clean it off in the past, and rinsed it thoroughly, but am wondering if there might be another product I should use that is not as harsh? I worry that the paint will degrade faster with the use of bleach.

Located about 60 miles west of Chicago, IL...

Thanks,

vince

I mixed 2 cups of hot water, 1/2 c. of white vinegar and 1/4 c of borax powder and sprayed mold on the wood ceiling of my screen porch. Wiped off very easily with a sponge. Make a larger batch if needed. After it dried I applied Zinser mold-killing primer and a top coat.
