Installing a new alcove tub in my fixer upper.
Instructions say, build a 60 in opening.
Drawings show a 60 in opening.

I built a 60 inch opening.

Tub is exactly 60 inches. Which means it wont fit.

Looks like I can move the wall at the foot of the tub with a little careful work with a demolition saw.

I had assumed that if the instructions call for 60 inches, then the tub would be 59.5, or something less than 60.

Where did I go wrong?

you need a 60 1/4'' hole
if a tub is 60'' then common sense dictates the hole needs to be a little bigger to install the tub.

do not feel bad, carpenters frequently frame a 60'' hole and I have to knock the wall over a 1/4
with a sledge hammer

I guess I'm mostly upset that I built according to instructions and the instructions were wrong. Instructions should have said 60 1/4.

I guess your carpenters were reading the same instructions I was.
