We have a swing that I need to hang on our patio. The rope that came with the swing isn't long enough so I need some ideas to add an extension. Some pics

I am thinking of using this kit to go to one of the wooden slabs you see in the pics

What kind of rope should I use to go over the pulleys? Its a baby swing, so I dont think a chain is necessary. I was thinking either a metal or nylon rope with upto 200 lbs capacity.

Q
* Which rope should I pick?
*Does the height of the slab matter, it's about 10-12 ft from the ground?
* Between the patio images one can see I have few options to hang, where should I screw the connector?

I'm seeing the picture of the swing, and the kit, the pictures of where you plan to hang it did not come up for me.
Tried several times.

If you intend to suspend it from either the 4X6 or the 4X12 you can use the hrdw. in the photo

The difficulty with rope is in the securely clamping it, where 1/4" or 3/8" vinyl coated wire rope, is clamp conducive.

Thanks for your reply. I am wondering if swing will be wobbly if wire/rope is not thick enough? Especially because of the height -- it will be at least 6-7 Ft of wire/ rope between the slab and seat. What can I do to make sure it doesn't wobble or twist.

If you are connecting to a single 4X6 rafter, you then separate, or splay, the connectors wider than the width of the seat.

And I would use chain for hanging the swing. A light weight chain will be much easier to fasten to your hooks and also to attach the swing rope to.

Sold on the idea of using a chain and carabiners. Do I need to pick chain just based on the weight or some other criteria along with weight?

For an infant and small child, light weight chain will be fine. Go to Lowes or HD or ACE, etc. and pick the length chain you need. They can cut 2 pieces for you at the required length. You're not pulling an 8 ton truck so nothing heavy duty is needed.
