Can I hang t1-11 horizontally instead of vertically? I have a screened in porch that need closed in a little better for protection from the elements and cold temps in the winter. I was thinking of hanging it so its 4 feet tall instead of 8 feet, that way I can take off the top section (or bottom) in the summer time. Yes I do realize this is ridiculous.... but it's for an even more ridiculous reason.... it wont br there for forever but for a few years and aesthetically my neighbors would be happier.

2 things; If your neighbor doesn't like your wardrobe, or lack there of, tell them when they are paying your mortgage, their opinion counts, and until then, find a hobby.

The groves will retain moisture, and all the other thing that go along with it.

I don’t think it will hurt a thing. Paint or stain it and it will do the job.

We have a lot of hunting cabins and beach cottages here and many people hang them with hinges and flip them up to the ceiling in the summer and latch them. Others flip them out and use them like an awning also. Solves the storage problem.

Why don't you just cut the sheet st 4' and still run the panels verticals? What ever you do, fabricate a flashing for the top edge to keep water from getting in the edge.

If you run it sideways caulk the inside bottom of the recesses to make the water keep moving down.

The collection of water on the T 111 edges would concern me, so I would heed Neal's idea or use the concrete Hardi Siding.

I think @shan2themax plan was to remove these pieces in the summer. Kind of like a shutter for winter months. If he’s worried about water getting in the groove he can just lay them with the tongue up. When he puts them up for the winter fit the pieces together at the T&G and then put in 3 or 4 screws to hold it.

T1-11 has a number of grooves the full length of the panel, not just the tongue. Every one of the grooves would hold water and cause the plywood to delaminate. Best to cut in half and hang vertically.

Ok... I'll take everyone's suggestions to heart, I kinda like the idea of hinging possibly.... the problem is that my mom is basically a hoarder, she lives on this 10×20 screened in back porch even though there is an empty bedroom she can use.... it's quite ridiculous. So, she has like 5 layers of plastic and boxes packed up to the ceiling, furniture, storage tubs etc. with a path down the middle to exit the door. I want to put siding up for a number of reasons, warmth in the winter is the main one.... and well, it just looks like **** to be frank. I'm at a point in life when I'm over my own BS let alone everyone else's. She isnt going to be happy no matter what I do. I guess I could also go super cheap and paint some plywood or something and fashion a couple of windows, then I wouldnt have to take it down.
Here's a pic. The picnic table and mowers are mi e, the rest is here and I know I need to fix the roof and the gutter, was supposed to today but my ladder wouldnt extend
FWIW, I'm a woman
