I am also a Texan .
My wife , middle son and I replaced our water main to our house . Between Christmas and New Year , almost years ago .
The old line was 3/4" copper . The new ditch was more crooked than the old line , so I up sized it to 1" PEX ( crimp on brass barb fittings & copper crimp rings ) . Also , 3/4" PEX fittings of that type have a smaller ID ( Internal Diameter ) than 3/4" . I used about 75' of 1" PEX , all together .
I rented a mini-excavator from Home Depot . All day for the ditch & 1/2 day the next day to cover it back up . The ditch ended up coasting much more that the pipe and fittings .
The white PEX I used is somewhat flexible . No 90 degree fittings were needed . It is said not to be likely to burst if it freezes .
If your ditch will be a straight shot , you may want to use a trencher .
My ditch varied from about 24" - 32" deep . Using power equipment , I see no reason not to go 24" deep .
Measure the length of pipe you will need . I used most of a 100" roll . I could have used PVC , but PEX is suppose to be more resistant to freezing . There are other kinds of pipe available in rolls , but I can not say which is best or legal .
Best of luck to you ! Let me know if I can help .
