I have a bare bulb light fixture in the in the center of the ceiling of my 2 car garage. The bulb sits directly above the garage door opener. (See picture.) I want to remove the bulb fixture, and run surface mount wiring to either side, so there are 2 light fixtures one on either side, directly above the car ports. (see marked up picture) Ultimately, i'd like to put install larger L.E.D. light fixtures above the cars, to increase the lighting... but I'll start with just regular bare bulb light fixtures for now..

Does anyone know if there's a cover for round junction box that feeds my current light, that has the penetrations to run surface mount wiring? I've looked online and haven't been able to find the junction box cover... Also, any recommendations on what surface mount conduit and fixtures I should use are also appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

Why not get a long (6 or 8 foot) florescent tube fixture mounted across that space? The wiring would be centered on the existing box and would not require any additional wiring. There are also LED tube lights available.

I am with SNS on this one.

Not only would that fixture provide more light but also not need as much work to mount. Those fixtures allow you to put your wiring splices inside the fixture itself therefore no need for junction boxes etc.

@slownsteady and@afjes_2016 - Thanks for the input, but I don't think a florescent tube fixture would fit between the garage door opener motor powerhead and the ceiling, and it would look strange sitting horizontally across the center of the garage. Plus I am trying even the lighting out between the two car bays, so i want each lightl to be directly above where the cars would be parked. I would consider maybe 2 separate florescent light fixtures, but I still have the same problem with the surface wiring.

@Snoonyb - Wiremold!! That's what I was looking for.. thanks!!!
