We are preparing to tile out this shower with a custom pan and after tearing out the fiberglass insert, we found that the pipe from the larger pipe below (p-trap) was installed at about a 10-15 degree angle. It is in there solid, so what are my options? I don't think a flex pipe is good as I don't want issues down the road and have to tear out the shower pan.

Sorry, cast iron. As it ends up, the angle doesn't seem too severe with the bit of play in the drain assembly. I did speak with one plumber who wanted to break up the concrete all the way to the floor drain in the laundry, meaning walls would come down and re-do everything. Not happening.

I may have been born at night, but not last night...

I was going to suggest, if you had the room, to cut it off just above the trap, install a calder fitting and a stub for the drain adapter, set the drain height and repair the floor, which will hold the drain in position.

The reason for the calder fitting is that there is some adjustment in vertical.

So something like this? Then fill the hole with concrete around it?

Thanks, guys! Got the repair done and my tile guy built the pan and curb. The caulder fitting worked like a charm. Now the tile can start to be laid.

Of course, I forgot to take pictures...DOH!

I hate to break the bad news but concrete is not water proof. you should have replaced the p-trap as one member said and then installed a clamp on shower drain see photo
