I have a used Ridgid power drill and the chuck barely turns. The spindles that hold and release the drill bits are wide open and don’t budge. I’ve tried unscrewing the chuck from the drill, but it was impossible.

Suggestions greatly appreciated.

Not sure how to unstick it but the screw that holds it is a left hand thread. The screw can be a bich to get out. Clamping in a vice so you can tap on the screw driver while you turn it usually helps.

I’ve reached the point where dynamite may be the best solution. I’m convinced that Ridgid doesn’t want anyone to remove their chucks.

Ha. Given that I believe most Rigid drills are under $100 brand new, and the cost of a new chuck would probably be half of that, I probably wouldn't have even bothered to try... I would have just given it a few sprays with WD40 or liquid wrench and if that didn't work, just moved onto a new drill...

You are going the right direction on that screw right? It’s reverse thread. Try dripping some ATF on it for a few day . Try trihgtrning a couple times sometimes sets em free. Use a GOOD DRIVER TIP and put some valve grinding compound on it to keep it from cramming outHopefully.
