I need to get rid of this large log from my backyard. About 26' long, 3' and 4' in diameter at the ends. Rotten on the outside but seems to be fairly solid on the inside.

Got a couple of quotes from landscaping companies
and they are too high for me.

Can I burn it in place? It does not have be done in 1 day although I probably can't leave it burning overnight. How long do you think it might take me to burn it at least to an extent that I can cut the rest with my 18" chainsaw into pieces that I can try to remove myself?

I would buy a longer bar and chain for the saw you have or rent a saw with a longer bar and cut it up into short pieces.

Or ask around and see if any neighbors heat with wood. I had one about that size fall on my deck a year ago and I limbed it and the guy down the road came and cut the rest up and had it out of there and in his firewood pile the next day.

Burning it in place would take 5 years of building campfires on it.

If you can cut it up and put it in your front yard with sign FREE , it will be gone .

Put a free firewood ad in Craigslist. Someone might come get it. What kind of wood is it? Hardwood usually get snatched up quick, pine and other soft wood not so much.
