These junky 19yr old Pella wood casement windows all have deteriorated bottom sash rail nearly every window. Now today ever since I put the large standalone humidifier unit in the living room, for the first time ever I got condensation on the bottom of the windows. All I read online is that the RH in the house is too high but it was at 27% when I came home this morning and saw the condensation. It could have been going on last winter too but I wasn't looking for it. I guess my question is, condensate can form on the bottom of the sash for a different reason like air leakage? I covered 80% of my house windows with that plastic kit from Home Depot and it helps keep the drafts down a bit but the condensation is on windows both with and without that plastic not sure if that matters. Some kind of air leakage possibly?

The question has to be, where is the water or moisture coming from. I have never seen moisture get behind that plastic wrap, unless maybe you trapped it in there when you did it.

I know right?! When I first saw it on unwrapped plastic free kitchen window I was little surprised but when I saw it on every window including the ones with plastic my eyes buldged from my skull! It must have to do more so with air leaking through these windows they are terribly drafty even the plastic bulges inward like a big balloon. Funny because the only window that didn't have any condensation whatsoever was the large front window that faces north and is the most drafty. My house is dry even with the standalone humidifier yet even the windows upstairs in every room had a little condensation.

Drafty windows are cold windows.
Cold windows have condensation problems.
The condensation is usually worse at the bottom, since heat rises, so the window is warmer on top and gets less condensation.

I know it's pretty common but what is it about casement windows that condensation is almost a guarantee. Wonder if other brands seal up better. Seems like there's no way to fix this even happens on the windows that have draft plastic sealed over them. Might need to just see about those drip strips and stick them along the bottom edge. Seems short term but what else is there replacement $$$$$:(

Don’t know what the fudge drip strips are.

Casement windows are an abomination from Hell, they suck in every way possible.
The list is too long.

Replace with quality double-hung.
