I painted the ceiling of an exposed joist and OSB ceiling in our stained glass shop. I used a Wagner sprayer similar to the Control Pro 150 or the
Graco. It worked well and in the right situation I'd do it again.

An airless sprayer that pumps the paint through a hose to a nozzle won't care what direction it is spraying. The ones with a paint cup may run into challenges when the paint in the cup is below a half a cup depending on which way the pick up lays. You may be able to bend the pick-up hose so it is pulling from the part of the cup facing down when spraying up.
