Ya that’s the stuff. We used to ride our bikes to the corner store and for a penny you could get a little bottle made out of paraffin that looked like a miniature coke bottle. You bit off the cap and it had some sugar syrup that tasted like coke inside. When done you had a glob of wax as you normally ended up chewing on the bottle. I didn’t buy many of them as for the same penny you could get an atomic hot ball that burned your mouth for a good 15-20 minutes.

It was all free actually as we would find soda (pop around here) bottles by the road and you took them to the beer distributor and he gave you 2 cents for one. Half mile one way to get 2 cents and then half mile the other way to spend it. :coffee:
I don't mean to hijack but it reminds me of a rite of passage story.

I had a school teacher who was raised in GA. He recalled his first purchase as a kid. He had a nickel and his mom let him make his first unaccompanied trip down that dusty road to the store at the crossroad. After pondering several items on display he selected a small round red box of peanuts that suggested it could contain a cash prize. He went out and sat on the ever present bench in front of the store and opened his box of peanuts. To his dismay the box contained those damned old "goober peas" just like they grew on the farm.

Plumbers grease... a non toxic silicone lubricant for faucets that doesn't attack rubber seals... about $1.49/tube...
Also available in auto stores as brake caliper piston and bore lubricant and anti-rust... but costs 10 times as much there...

They sell jars of honey with some of the honeycomb inside, but I don't know if it has any bees wax.

It might have been sticky because my dad may have got it with the honey ...
In your case it might have been because of honey but bow string wax is supposed to be sticky. A typical recipe for DIY string wax is 5 parts bees wax to 1 part pine tar. I hope you will think about picking up another longbow - they are even more fun than you remember!
