Hi all, we have a 1960s cottage that we are finally updating. So far I have replaced a couple of windows. I am at a loss as to how to go about finishing the window that is located in the shower. I know! Brutal, but the natural light and ventilation are a must. I'm not sure if it's visible, but the row of tiles on the bottom seem very high in comparison to where the window is installed. In order to prop it up more I would have to rebuild the entire opening. Any suggestions on how to tackle this are greatly appreciated. I have a Dremel tool at my disposal if you think I should try to cut the tiles down some.

The best way is to remove the window, then reinstall a smaller window above the tile line. I have a plastic window that cuts into the last few courses of tile, but gets very little water. It is caulked and grouted tight, but I still wipe down the shower after every use.

What type of exterior finish do you have? Stucco? Brick? Wood siding?

Also, in the photo labeled as "left side photo" where my tape measure is at the 2" mark. What is the purpose of this channel? It is around the entire outside edge of the windows.

Some may have a solution, but I myself see an upcoming failure. Unless you tear out and rebuild that entire shower area, you are destined to have a water issue. My advice is to get a tile expert in there, and devise a way to build up that entire area, then face with tile or similar.
You obviously removed the old window recently. Why was the old window replaced?

The first thing I would have done is removed the window completely away from the shower. Always asking for a mould problem with windows in a shower... I would have been better if you moved the window out of the shower, and if no where else to put the window, then I would have put a pot light in the shower for light... It's what I would and have done...Good Luck...
