This guy is stealing my name

I have a very common combination of first and last names. Both are in the top 10 for most common in the US for quite a few years.

Anyway, my job hired a new guy who uses my name. His legal first name is completely different and our email addresses are based on legal names. My legal first name is Christopher, his is George but he goes by Chris.

So, my email is christopher.name and his is george.name. However, everyone just searches for christopher.name and sends me his messages via email. This is going to get really old, very quickly. I even received a welcome letter from his site via USPS a few weeks ago. The people who sent it know me as I have spent some time there as well. They just called HR and asked for 'his' address and were given mine. I called them and we shared a few laughs. I like the people there, so the issue is not with them.

I am getting tired of getting his emails already. The best part is when people "reply to all" on emails that I should not even have received. That just compounds it for me. He is apparently supposed to be in a meeting tomorrow that I know about.

My solution so far has been to tell the sender that they mixed up. I have decided that if I just forward it to this 'impostor', they will not know to fix it in the future.

His site is much larger than mine, so I don't see this problem going away anytime soon unless he abandons my name. The situation only inconveniences me, naturally.

Any other solutions?

That would be shorter to type. Hm....finally a solution I can live with (I posted similarly to several forums for more ideas).

I would charge him for secretarial services.

wonder what happens if he gets fired?

Don't tell him about any of his meetings or special events that he gets notified of via email.. Then when he misses a few he will start telling everyone the correct name...

Why not ask your company IT department to change your e-mail to [email protected] and his to [email protected]?

...since everyone is calling him Christopher anyhow.

Everyone sending e-mails has an address list on their e-mail client, so the little bit of time it takes for people to change the names in their address list would solve the problem.

I don't know if he took some initiative, after my email and his apparent indifference, or not. I do know that so far, so good. I hope that it continues
