Hi, I have an old-old cabin in the sierra mountains of California which is in need of some TLC.
I am planning on replacing the siding but not sure what to replace it with.
It is at 7200 feet and could be covered with snow in the winter.

After a quick look around at Home Depot, I got a sticker shock for the wood siding at $34 /sheet.
Hardie panel around $19/sheet looked better but was hoping I could find wood panels that were lighter and easier to work with.

Any recommendations for other types of siding that would work in my situation.
Thanks

The only cheaper option I can think of is rough sawn lumber from a local sawmill. I don't know if that is available in your area.

thanks but I'm afraid that wouldn't be an option in my situation.

Why not vinyl? It should be durable enough to withstand the elements.

No, vinyl siding does not come in 4 X 8 sheets. It is a product that has a lap board appearance.

If you are sure you want a 4 X 8 sheet, I think a hardy board type product is the way to go.

My :2cents:

I think you are right unfortunately I do not have any help and I'm reluctant to do the Hardie board by myself because of the weight.
I might just have to suck it up and get the wood panels at $34 each..
