simply put, I am renovating my bathroom, and when i removed the 'original vanity, I found a confusing thing, I grabbed a video and put it on youtube.

The one pipe that comes straight off the vent is the only drain that enters the main stack the other pipe (on the left) goes straight through the basement floor, and all the house sink drains are connected to this one:confused::confused:
 
The first pipe you were talking about is the vent for the fixtures in the basement below. The second one is the lav sink drain with a cleanout.
 
So, is it normal to have the basement vent pipe seperate from the others? The bathroom vent is almost 8' from the main stack, and the bathroom is the only drain on the vent pipe that is on the right. I have decided not to play around with the way the pipes are run, but still just wondering. My other thought is that because when my house was built, the economy was good and the Canadian dollar was strong these builders were pooping out houses at record speed, corners were cut and mistakes were made.
 
Yes, it is normal.

Any fixture in the basement requires a vent and a vent between floors cannot have waste running through it.
