Can I fix this fence post without replacing?

Thanks for the suggestion. I forgot to mention my post that there is concrete down at the base of the quotes. I dug down as far as I could before I hit it.

Can I fix this fence post without replacing?

Long story short - had some rough cut lumber on the ground against the bottom of this fence post. It rotted, impacted the fence post as well. Now this post is leaning out. The other posts are all in good shape. Looking for a way to fix this without digging out the post. Suggestions? Is...

Ceded fence paint / stain question

I have a 6-7 year old cedar fence and deck was stained with a semi-train parent stain when new. Now it is showing some age and need to be cleaned and stained/painted. What are the proper steps for restraining / painting a previously stained fence and deck? Should I keep it a...

Help With Adding Floor Joist Support to Cabin

Got to the cabin yesterday and made progress. Found the main support beam is attached to a 4x6” post in the ground. A 2x8 is the attached on both sides of the post to provide a point to attach the additional floor joists. Since access was limited, I pulled back the bedroom carpet and cut myself...

Help With Adding Floor Joist Support to Cabin

From what I can tell, the wall in question runs along the beam highlighted in red. I’ve attached a photo without the markup as well. Later this week I’m going to remove the black drain pipe in the photos and clear out some of other junk underneath so I can get a better view of what is going on.

Help With Adding Floor Joist Support to Cabin

We have a cabin at our camp which isn’t built on a solid foundation. The front part was constructed on an old concrete pad/driveway. The rear of the cabin has 4x4 posts in concrete for the framing and floor joists are just off the ground (maybe 6-8” of clearance. I have an interior wall with...

Can you disassemble a 2-piece toilet and reassemble without leaks?

I actually used the Fluidmaster Better Than Wax gasket and it seemed to work fine. Better than messing with the wax stuff IMHO.

Can you disassemble a 2-piece toilet and reassemble without leaks?

Thanks everyone. The toilet is an American Standard Champion which cost around $250 at Home Depot. It’s only been installed for about a week. I did purchase a new seat for it (it came with a cheap plastic seat) and the wife seems to be slightly happier, so thinking we will keep it where it is...

Can you disassemble a 2-piece toilet and reassemble without leaks?

Asking because the wife insisted we get a round toilet for our main level 1/2 bath which is small. After a couple days she has admitted she hates it and now wants an elongated toilet. FML. I have a full bath upstairs with an older toilet, so thinking I can move this one upstairs as it doesn’t...

How to dim just one LED light

Thank you for the feedback. I decided it was a hassle to deal with and would be better to return the light. I got another one with an adjustable K rating (2,700/3,000/4000/5000) and not as bright. Why do things wrong once when you can do it again and get it right the second time. Story of my...

How to dim just one LED light

The middle light is the one I added which is too bright. The task lights around are connected to the same circuit as well and get dim much quicker, so looking for a way to dim the center fixture.

How to dim just one LED light

I recently replaced an old 48” fluorescent kitchen light with a new LED fixture and it is way too bright. I’ve replaced the standard switch with a dimmer and it works as it should, however there are six other lights on the same circuit and the new LED light is still too bright when the others...

    Condensation on windows

We purchased a home out in the woods and had terrible humidity issues. Turned out the HVAC super expensive filter was dirty, which created humidity issues inside the house. Crazy I know. Doubt this is your issue, but worth checking.

31” door frame - best way to add door.

The house was built in the late forties/early 50s so the door jams are odd sizes. This doorway never had a door but I’m trying to install the door now to make it a bedroom.

31” door frame - best way to add door.

I’ve replaced many an interior door in my day, but believe I’m doing it wrong. I’m looking to add an interior door to a frame which measures 31” wide. In the past I would purchase a 32” door and used a planer to trim it down. (I cannot find a 31” slab, only 30 ans 32” options.) The last...

Help with dimming lights in house.

Correct, it was a standard shop vac. It’s also doing it with the dryer, which is connected to a new breaker in the new breaker box via new wiring. It’s so odd. Have no idea what is causing this issue, but it is concerning. Attaching a video for reference.

Help with dimming lights in house.

Hey guys, really appreciate the feedback and the video link. After watching the video, I realized I didn’t know as much about electricity as I thought. I’m attaching photos of the meter and the wires coming into the meter itself. The meter was replaced within the last 15 years because it is...

Help with dimming lights in house.

There is not. The wire is connected straight to the meter from the panel.

Hopefully this photo will show up better. The original (old) feeder wire from the meter was too small for a 100 amp panel, so the electricians had to run a new supply line directly from the meter to the new panel. I asked them to install a new grounding rod outside, so they did. I’m assuming...
