    First Attic Incursion, and issues...

When I reroofed a few years ago I had the roofer install continuous ridge venting. When I had the house painted after that, I closed off my gable vents with Hardi-panel fiber cement panels. Gable vents have been problematic for me and several neighbors getting bats into our attics. Unless you...

I am look for Home maintenance checklist (Help)

I don't offer that as a service. I don't work above 10 feet off the ground. I can't easily transport an extension ladder. At my own home I did clean them, but I installed gutter guards on the front and had the roofer install them on the back, my back of the house is 3 stories off the ground...

Supply Air Plenum and Humidifier Installation

A humidifier will help with dry skin and with your wooden furniture and flooring from shrinking during heating season. To my knowledge it won't do anything to clean the air.

    Construction Estimating Software Question

We used Builder Trend for project management. It integrates into Quickbooks. There are templates for project schedules and you can create your own. As to tools to help with quoting, I'm open to suggestions as well.

Is Garage Door Insulation Worth It?

I spent the extra bucks for an insulated door with the insulation encased in steel on both sides of the door. The insulation is nice, but my main reason was the doors are MUCH quieter (upgrade to nylon wheels too) and with the spray foam insulation less likely to dent. After we closed on the...

    Drainage question

Are you trying to install a footer drain along this wall? Is water collecting at the garage door that you need to divert? What is the grade around the house? Does the yard slope towards the house or away? I can't really tell from your picture or text what you're trying to accomplish here.

Repair a Jenn-Air wall oven control?

What is the full model number? www.repairclinic.com has parts but separates them out by a longer model number. The one I looked at didn't have the control panel you show. You can go there and enter in the complete model number and find parts.

    Underlayment Thickness Help

I would, yes. Some people don't like OSB, but it is a great product for this application.

    Underlayment Thickness Help

By "pressboard" do you mean particle board (basically glued sawdust) or Oriented Strand Board OSB (large pieces of wood glued together? Given the age it could be either. OSB has been around for at least 45 years now, but I think particle board has been around a lot longer. My first house...

    Garage Door Won't Open

Have you tried releasing the door from the opener and trying to lift the door manually? Do you have torsion springs above the door or springs along the side of the track? I'd be willing to be you have a broken torsion spring and the opener can't lift the weight of the door.

    T111 vs metal barn siding

Regarding Hardi-Panel, latex paint is fine. My house is Hardi-plank and I've painted it with Sherwin Williams satin latex paint and it holds up very well. I've never had any peeling on my siding. The satin cleans better than the flat sheen. I just repainted last year, the last paint job...

    T111 vs metal barn siding

I would use Hardi-panel T1-11 not wood if I were doing it in T1-11. Get it 6" off of the grade regardless.

I am look for Home maintenance checklist (Help)

I put this document together as a possible service offering last year. I was thinking of doing this as part of a handyman service before I started a new job.

    Black top cracks repair

Tar and chip your driveway, that would be a hot mess for quite awhile. They count on car traffic compacting the stones into the hot tar. I'm glad I have a concrete driveway that isn't terribly long.

Installing hedgerow of bushes on my property wall, how to do it? Do landscaping services do it?

Larger mature bushes are more expensive and harder to transplant. One thing to make sure of is the strength of the mature bush. It doesn't look like you're in snow country but if you were many fast growing bushes don't do well with snow. Get plants that are native to your area so they'll...

    Black top cracks repair

I'd clean them out, a pressure washer would be one way. Then after it dries you could use this product, or if you don't have a lot they make caulking tubes with sealant. Then after it has a chance to cure, seal the entire driveway with a driveway sealer. This should buy you some time before...

Best Practices for Installing a Crawl Space Vapor Barrier

Previous conventional wisdom was to cover 80-90% of the floor. That has largely been changed. Are you planning on doing a sealed, conditioned crawlspace (best practice but not widely done yet) or continue to have it open to the outside via foundation vents? Ideally, I'd go conditioned...

    Issues with a small tree

The only solution for that tree is honestly a chainsaw cut about 3" above the ground. It is only a matter of time before it succumbs to the rot. It is dying.

Pretty cats, we used to have one that looked very similar to your two.

Toilet roll question- apologies in advance

I prefer over the top, it makes it easier to find the end. That said, if you have a cat that likes to play with the TP, reverse it to come off the back. That way they won't unroll the whole role on the floor.
