Thanks for that video, that's a great idea!

    Working backwards with LVP

Yes - I've had to work backwards into a couple of closets already. Wasn't fun. I managed to get it in nicely, but it took way longer. Not looking forward to doing this entire bedroom working backwards.

    Working backwards with LVP

Hi Everyone, I am laying LVP throughout the main floor of my house with no transitions. I planned out the installation in such a way that I only have one room where I will have to work backwards with the flooring. Any tips on easier ways to install the groove side to the tongue side? Thanks!

    Refinish Oak flooring, or replace?

Thanks for the heads up! I bought some locally manufactured LVP, and it seems to be very high quality. I took a coin like you suggested, rubbed it as hard as I could on a small scrap cutoff piece, and it barely scraped the protective coating. The scratch was unnoticeable after wiping it with my...

    Refinish Oak flooring, or replace?

Thanks Curtis - Yes, we did go with a floating floor. I'm planning to start installation today. I'm just having trouble coming up with the proper width of the first row of boards to make sure the last row isn't only 1" wide or something.

How to repair lower part of walls before putting in baseboards

I'm probably going to buy taller baseboards for that very reason, actually. I'll also gain about 6mm with the new flooring up putting down. Which loose material do I need to remove? The paper that's coming loose?

    Refinish Oak flooring, or replace?

Thanks everyone! I have decided to put SPC vinyl over top of the hardwood. Unfortunately, with my family's lifestyle, it's just not possible to maintain low traffic during the time it takes the polyurethane to dry. As for the squeaks in the floor, yes, I do have a kreg jig. I use it very...

How to repair lower part of walls before putting in baseboards

Hi Everyone - I just finished pulling off old baseboards. They were glued to the wall. It made a bit of a mess of the drywall pulling them off. I've attached a picture. Any tips on prepping the area before putting new baseboards on? Thanks!

    Refinish Oak flooring, or replace?

Thanks - Those are all good points. The house was built in 1964, there's a steel I-beam running lengthwise under the floor along the halfway point. It's a bungalow, with no ceiling in the basement, so I can see the plywood subfloor from underneath. There's no water, or any other damage to the...

    Refinish Oak flooring, or replace?

Thanks - I also just got some samples or SPC vinyl flooring, and it looks pretty good, it's waterproof and seems very well made. I agree, I don't like the idea of getting rid of the nice oak. I just don't want to go through the effort of refinishing it, just to have the dog scratch the heck out...

    Refinish Oak flooring, or replace?

Hi Everyone, I have old oak flooring all through my house, and the finish is peeling/flaking off all over the place. We have a baby, 2 cats and a 75 lb Golden Retriever. I'm just wondering, is it better to refinish the wood floor, or tear it all out and replace with laminate or something? The...

Looking for advice on installing a wall with a railing

So use construction adhesive to attach the foam board to the concrete, and construction adhesive to attach the drywall to the foam board?

Looking for advice on installing a wall with a railing

One other thing too is that the stringer is pretty much right up against the concrete (maybe about a 3/4" gap), so the side of the stringer closest to the stairs is only about 2.5" from the concrete wall, so when I frame up this wall, the studs will overlap the stairs slightly. Is that okay?

Looking for advice on installing a wall with a railing

Sounds good, thanks for the tips! For the top plate, there is nothing to screw it to over top of the stairs. Just wondering if you have any ideas how to secure the top plate? Thanks a lot!

Looking for advice on installing a wall with a railing

Thank you! There is already a little storage area underneath the stairs on the other side, so I will just close it up completely with a wall on the open side of the stairs. Any tips for building a wall that so I can drywall alongside the concrete on the other side?

Looking for advice on installing a wall with a railing

Hello Everyone, Just looking for some advice on how to install a wall/railing alongside my basement stairs. I would like to frame up a wall on the open side of the stair case, and install a railing on that side as well. Thanks!

    Best Quality Shingles

Yes, that's absolutely true. If the job isn't done well, it doesn't matter how good your shingles are. So I will basically strip all of the current shingles off (there are currently 2 layers). I will replace some of the plywood (I can see some dips in the roof where the plywood is starting to...

    Best Quality Shingles

Thanks for the advice! I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It gets as cold as -40 C/F and as hot as +40 C/104 F. We get pretty intense winters, with strong wind etc. So I will be doing the whole deal with ice guard etc. I won't be hiring a contractor, and will be doing the job myself with...

    Best Quality Shingles

Hi Everyone, I am in the process of trying to find the best shingles, and I will be replacing the shingles on my house and garage in the Spring. What would everyone suggest as the best make and model of shingles to go with? I plan on owning this house for a very long time, so durability is...
