    Main Water Line Pipe Question

Hello, I live in Fort Worth, TX and my city uses the 2015 International Plumbing Code. My house's main water line used PB (polybutylene) pipe which has degraded and sprung a leak. The pipe runs under my driveway and after digging a small hole in my driveway and locating the leak I decided it...

    Question about toilet flange

That could definitely be possible, since it looks like PVC with a metal flange I guess I could take out whatever screws are there, grab that piece, screw it down, and use some of the larger seals that exist since it is about 1/4" to 1/2" below the finished floor. This would be nice since I...

how to keep a water line from freezing?

Insulation on the pipe? Does the pipe run in the wall, and if so is there insulation in the wall where the pipe runs? You could always keep the water running at times when you're afraid it will freeze.

    Question about toilet flange

Hello, I have a rusted toilet flange that currently sits below the finished tile floor by about a 1/2". The pipe is 3", and the old flange is glued to the outside of the pipe. There is a tile floor and a lot of space. I have a few questions about replacing this flange. I believe that using a...

    Question about fireplace mantel

So do you think I should just cut out the 2x4's that are already there and try and install a cleat system to set the current hollow mantel on after I put it back together?

    Question about fireplace mantel

I figured this would be the best place to ask. I just got an older home not sure on the year maybe around the 1970's or early 1980's. I was going to paint my fireplace but I also wanted to fix the mantel and paint it as well. So I got to work and ended up prying off a hollow wooden mantel off...

Painting brick fireplace, stain vs prime + paint

Hello, I have been doing some research on this and I've got some mixed reviews. I've seen someone people recommend stain because it allows the brick to breathe but I haven't been too impressed with the color saturation of the brick with a stain. I've also seen people go with a masonry primer and...

    Question about tiling a shower.

No I don't, all the cuts are going to the corner of a wall. I also realized that adding a piece of hardieboard to the side wall was the best solution and a great idea so I was going to do that as well.

    Question about tiling a shower.

That is a possibility but it would put the backer board past the door jamb. I started trimming the curb back already so I'll have to save that idea for the future if I'm ever crazy enough to do a shower again.

    Question about tiling a shower.

So you think a whole tile down the half wall will look okay? Any ideas for the curb? Would trimming it back to be flush with the half wall workout alright?

    Question about tiling a shower.

Alright I have a few questions after finishing almost all the other work on my property about tiling my shower. I am using 12x24 inch tiles, ceramic, and I am not sure how to start the layout. Here is the first image showing the general layout of the shower and how big the tile is compared...

Question on height of foundation with sonotubes.

Actually I've been thinking about it and drawing up a bunch of diagrams for the layout. I am starting to believe that a porch around the entire house would be excessive. Someone mentioned this and it got me thinking and after drawing it up I have to agree. I also really wanted to get away from...

Question on height of foundation with sonotubes.

I definitely believe in building codes. I am not an expert and I have limited construction experience especially in regards to framing. Which is why I am going to trust the expertise of people who have been doing this kind of work their whole life. However, I also believe that if someone wants...

Question on height of foundation with sonotubes.

Well luckily the county I'm in has no building code requirements outside of septic. So I shouldn't have a problem getting anything constructed. I will still get plans drawn up, architectural and engineering, and get everything inspected in case there is any kind of inquiry into the property in...

Question on height of foundation with sonotubes.

Well it is going to be built in the NE of Texas. There shouldn't be much of a snow load and the frost line is right around 12". I was definitely wanting to do the piers all sonotube. I was going to get some footing attachments for the sonotube and if rebar is necessary for the structural...

Question on height of foundation with sonotubes.

Alright I took your suggestions into consideration and reworked some of the numbers. I decided to run with a 4/12 roof pitch and go with an 8 foot deep porch. This put the roof height at 6 feet, and should allow for the trusses to extend all the way and cover the porch. This should be perfect...

Question on height of foundation with sonotubes.

I am planning on building a very small house with a wrap around porch. By small I mean 400 square feet. I am going to make it square with a hip roof, and hopefully a 4 foot wide wrap around porch. I would like to have the house raised off the ground 7 feet. Also I would like to make the walls...

    Masterbathroom remodel help, video inside!

Dang! Haha, some of it was damaged when I was tearing out the drywall and I noticed mouse droppings all inside the wall. So I wanted to see if it was possible to replace it with something else besides foam board insulation. Good thing I stopped myself from ripping anymore of it out, thank god...
