    Subfloor question...

I’m going to glue &screw 3/4” ply ove:r the recycled hardwood. I am going to use 1/4” cement board, probably not Wonderboard Lite. The original stuff has always worked well in the past.

    Subfloor question...

There is cross bracing of the same material as the joists. All true dimension lumber. I’d hate to have to add that. Would have to drill each place a fastener would need to go. This lumber is rock hard.

    Subfloor question...

No basement. Just a shallow crawl space...about 8 -10”. Most of the joists are resting on limestone rock in at least a couple of places. Not going anywhere. Been there for over150 years.

    Subfloor question...

Opinions on Wonderboard Lite? Seems flimsy to me, not enough structure to help in firming up the base for tiling..

    Subfloor question...

I’ve got the matching of the floor heights already figured in. Mocked up the various components. Must have a smooth transition from dining to hallway and living room and kitchen. Wife is disabled, uses a walker, so must have a smooth transition. There is blocking and fire retardant foam. Did...

    Subfloor question...

I am replacing dining room floor, from the floor joists up. I have placed 6 mil plastic on the ground. I would like to recycle about 600 sq. Ft of 3/4” x 2-1/2” oak and maple hardwood flooring as the subfloor, since that is what I have available. I will be placing 30# felt over this subfloor...

    Proper wall insulation question.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. All walls (interior and exterior) are 2x4 construction. Looks like I will be using kraft faced fiberglass insulation. I still will need to install soffit vents, and ridge (gable end) vents, and an attic exhaust whirleybird. Not using an integrated ridge...

    Proper wall insulation question.

I can purchase Roxul by driving to locations in north Georgia, and s.e. Tenn. Guess unavailability is an Alabama thing. Do you have an opinion as to the insulation I should be using in this application, if not Roxul? Using Roxul is not written in stone, but it is an alternative to what is...

    Proper wall insulation question.

Exterior walls in an upstairs living space over a garage. Vinyl siding exterior, 1/2" green foam board, 7/16" OSB, are the layers from exterior inward. What would be the proper insulation for the 2x4 walls? Can't afford spray foam. Would like to use Roxul, but our big box stores claim it is...

    Cast iron stand....what is it?

I just repaired the platforms, sandblasted the entire stand, primed and painted it with black truck bed lining. The stand now resides in my front garden area. Not going to look for any more parts for the stand. I'll just put a couple of flower pots on it for decoration.

    Cast iron stand....what is it?

Will do. I'm going to TRY to freehand the lettering and scroll work. These old hands aren't as steady as they used to be. David.

    Cast iron stand....what is it?

Bud16415, slownsteady.............. Thanks for your replies. Bud thanks for the excellent picture. Assuming that I am not able to locate any further parts for this base, I have sandblasted it, primed it, and finished it with spray on truck bedliner. After a few days drying time, I'm going to...

    Cast iron stand....what is it?

I have been informed that this base is from a DeLaval cream separator from the early 1900's. The two shelves are called adjustable pail shelves. There is a lot more to this item, namely the separator part. From pictures gleaned from the internet, this is a very large machine. Guessing it would...

    Cast iron stand....what is it?

In addition, the two arms are supposed to be able to rotate and be fastened in a desired position. Got to get them freed up yet. David.

    Cast iron stand....what is it?

I was given this cast iron stand by a friend who was disposing of some stuff on the farm. Anyone tell me what it is, and it's use. It looks like there is also supposed to be another "something" on the very top (see last two pics). There's a big nut on the underside of the top. I plan to use it...

Saw question: What is it, and its use?

nealtw.... Thanks for your reply. I had a suspicion that it might be for a miter saw, but wasn't absolutely sure. I'll have to look further in his tool area for the rest of it. David.

Saw question: What is it, and its use?

I've found this saw in amongst my tool stash, and I (came from my late father's tools)'m not sure what it is used for. Anyone? Thanks, David.

Type of bit to use...ceramic floor tile?

Thanks to all for your replies and suggestions. With only a small number of cuts to make, I believe that I will use my angle grinder. Only 90* cuts on this job.
