What vacuum cleaner should I buy?

We have a Shark that we recently purchased and it works great. The only complaint I have is having to drag it around in roller mode (but will be a problem as most other brands/models follow this form factor). If this is a big deal, go with a backpack model.

a backup generator "dog house"? store and use question.

These "dog-houses" are pretty common in Maine. I would drill into that slab, epoxy in threaded rod and attach a PT-bottom plate. Build walls/roof, add sheathing and side/roof with a similar material to what is on your home. Put in an exhaust as well. I would build it so one side of the house...

    Insulating under an addition

I agree it is not ideal. Is child labor an option? :D When I was around 10 I was convinced by my uncle to insulate the bottom of his cabin as I was the only one small enough to fit under it. I remember crawling under to push up batts of pink insulation into the bays that were held in place...

    Insulating under an addition

why not, if we assume they can waterproof from the bottom (if dirt floor) and they can enclose it?

    Insulating under an addition

Can you blow some insulation under there and be done with it?

my cabin is on leaning cement columns :/

Fair enough...then in that circumstance I wouldn't recommend he work under there at all; and should shore it up soundly from the outside first.

my cabin is on leaning cement columns :/

Instead of the crib idea (which sounds like alot of labor just to get through this winter), what about using a come-a-long system to pull the cabin back a few inches so it sits right on the piers? Leave the come-a-long in place for the winter. Then in the spring build your temporary cribs on...

Electrical for TV mounted above fireplace

Just to follow up: Finished the install...I ended fishing the Romex through the wall to the two rework boxes for the Vantec Power bridge. Fishing was relatively easy, I was able to fish by only opening two spots in the wall where where were studs (a doubled-up stud at the edge of the...

    Replacing furnace/ac thoughts

Best thing to do is get another quote and see how they stack up. Get two more if possible...by comparing differences you'll be able to ask informed questions. Don't settle for being the noob; we hire contractors to do this work because they can do it the job efficiently and cleanly, which...

Ideas for large backyard an front

Not sure there is much to do in the backyard. You have a bunch of mature trees back there that many of us would be envious of. Plus, maintaining that will probably be work enough for you (mowing, pruning, picking up sticks, raking leaves) without adding anything extra! Front of house is...

Need to cut bushes in half, questions.

By cutting them in half you will be sawing/cutting through the main trunk of the bush. My (uninformed) guess is that in the years following you will have multiple new growths from around that cut end projecting upward. You can then trim them gently to get the the top to round/fill out (but it...

    Behind shed ideas

If it were me, I would move the composters from where they are now to behind the shed. That way they aren't aren't visible from the house but still accessible. I would then plant something (flower bed, hedges, garden, etc) on the side where they are now. I think the light will be better...

    Selecting a color of siding

Another thing to think of is ease of repair and how easy it is to replace. Say you have a windstorm rip half of it off at some point, can you get a reasonable replacement product? Another option is to buy some extra for future repair/replacement, but that is probably a standard thing.

    Non treated pine 4x4s

he said he was looking for non-PT 4x4s, not furniture grade pine. Also, he said farmhouse table which I took to mean "rustic" and not furniture grade stuff. But whatever....just sharing my experience.

Electrical for TV mounted above fireplace

good idea, but we use the fire all winter. It gets flipped on when we get home from work and stays on until bed.

Electrical for TV mounted above fireplace

Thanks! The more I think about it, the more I think I'll fish the power completely in the wall. I am of the understanding that the 60Hz of the electrical line won't bother digital signal of HDMI, but I may have other cabling in that channel at some point (speaker wire, component, etc) I...

    Non treated pine 4x4s

Electrical for TV mounted above fireplace

The plan was to put a surge protector or power conditioner in line with the TV, but I will consider going with power straight to the outlet as well. thanks for your input!

Electrical for TV mounted above fireplace

Thank you....I also forgot about the fact that the high voltage line will cause interference with the low-voltage lines. I can definitely separate them with a layer of drywall; is that enough for code and minimizing interference (can't imagine it wouldn't be). thanks!

    Non treated pine 4x4s

Weird...I have found doug-fir 4x4 at Lowes/HD whenever I've gone to look. I've gotten them there a couple of times now.
