    Room Addition Framing

Yes, they will be sturdy. Build the walls with a single bottom plate and single top plate to about 2 " short of the suspended ceiling. Stand them up and tie in the outside corner then pull the suspended ceiling panels and double up the plate on the top, over-lapping the plates in the opposite...

    Forgetful

I thought only wives did that in the dead of winter. j/k

    Circular Lighting

Also, in all likelyhood those were fancy schmancy low voltage lighting. Expensive and not the best fit for a garage- unless you serve latte's out of your garage.

    Most Versatile Tool

It depends on what type of work you are referring to but as far as wood goes I think the original wormdrive skilsaw, still used today (although it is technically bosch now) is the most versatile tool on the planet. Closely followed by any cats paw that has a beer opener on it.:D

DeWalt 18V 16g Finish Nailer product report

I have had this nail gun for about 8 months now and am surprised to report I actually like it and that it has performed better than I expected. Initially I purchased it to do some exterior pine extension jambs when a compressor crapped the bed on a job far from home. I have always been leery...

    Roofing Shingles

The most commonly used shingle in our region is IKO 30yr asphalt shingles. "Aristocrat" for 3 tab (Now being replaced by the Marathon which is a true 30yr) and "Cambridge" for Architectural shingles.

x2. Direct burial PT is never the best option. You are asking to have to deal with building failure down the line. Install Sono tubes and bigfoots http://www.bigfootsystems.com/ with anchor bolts and column bases (A Simpson ABA66 should be sufficient for your application with an embedded 5/8"...

    Vis-Queen Vapor Barrier

That can be a complex answer but as far as an easy blanket answer. No. It is not a good idea to have a dual vapor barrier as moisture can become trapped between the two.

    Hanging Drywall

As stated above it is all about the finished surface. It is not uncommon to stand 8' or 10' sheets vertically. It can make it difficult to attain a good finish. For a typical garage a "clean" fire tape job and then prime is sufficient.

    Power to work bench

Consider how many and what type of tools you are going to be using at the workbench as well. Power strips work fine until you try and run a couple tools with a higher draw off one at the same time. Running a radio, battery charger and a shop vac at the same time can be enough to overload the...

    electrical setup question

It varies from electric co to electric co but a typical process would be this: You will need to have the building staked out at a minimum, some EC's require that footings are in the ground. Contact the EC and request a new service- depending on what you are putting in the garage a 100A...

    Apron

I would say that depends entirely what region you live in. Freeze/ thaw cycles and road salt all wreak havoc on concrete aprons. You can help by sealing the concrete with a siloxene every year but here in the N.east they don't hold up long before they start to spar and break up.

    Canned Light

I would not recommend recessed lighting for a garage if you are turning it into any sort of work space. Surface lighting will give you better light. Also with living space above you will create viods in the insulation for heat/ cold and noise to transfer through the floor. Recessed cans can...

    Insulation

Fiberglass will make you itch like a bastard. Especially if you are sweating. You want to cover as much skin as you can and shower as soon as you can after you are done. I honestly do not know how installers do it for a living. They say you get used to it but it drives me crazy.

    Insulation

It's Easy. It just sucks. I don't know what area you are in but it is pretty inexpensive to have it done by the pros here. I think I paid $450 for a 22x24' garage with living space above. Wear a mask and long sleeves. Owens Corning would be my recommendation for product.

    Footers

If you truely hit clay you want to over excavate and bring it back up with stone the the bottom of footing grade. Did a little deeper and see what you are dealing with. Also, where in the country are you? Poured concrete foundation or CMU?

    Drywalling

Hanging GWB is not difficult. Beer a friend into helping you out. All you need is a razor knife, a screw gun (battery drill will work in a pinch but buy a dimple tip so you are not over driving the screws) a tape measure and a straight edge. a T square works best but you can get by without...
