    Home Decorating

Unless you plan on selling, don't be afraid to use some color. My work brings me into thousands of homes and most keep it safe by using neutrals on the walls. I think colors that inspire you brings out the spirit of your home.

Calculating Cost vs Benefit Ratio on Renovations

I think the best person to get your answers from is a local realtor. They can tell you if the improvment you what to do to a particular area will increase your property value and by approx how much. Most realtors will be happy to go over this with you in hopes of getting your listing or your...

How to get rid of lap marks?

Did you seal the walls first with a good primer? If not that will cause lap marks. The paint is soaking into the porous walls and drying too quick. Once there you can't get rid of them. I would suggest priming with the best quality sealer you can find and re-paint.

    plastered over fireplaces

Not sure how you would go about your project but we had a similar situation. We had to do some repairs on a walled over fireplace. When we opened it up we found a time capsule from the 1915. It was very interesting.

    Window Treatment Help!

I think your too close to the heat registers also. In the pic with the heat register on the right looks like you will have a hard time installing a rod with how close the ceiling cuts into your trim. But I think you can still get away with drapes, well not drapes but fabric. My suggestion is a...

    Living room decoration & ideas

I think the mural is very cool. A top treatment for your shade would give it that lived in feel. Maybe a cloth valance or even a cornice. Also if your on ground level and want more privacy, consider some type of top down bottom up shade.

What do I do with this kitchen?

Thats one heck of a clean up job before you. But looks like it would be worth the effort. You might want to consider having the doors and draws of the lower cabinets replaced. Looks like plywood with a varnish finish so shouldn't be too expensive. Save orginal hardware, they should clean up...

    Getting rid of mosquitos

Thanks for the info Nestor. I will look into the mosquito magnet. I do know about the bats but I think the mosquitos out number the bats 1,000,000 to 1. Re-painting the deck

No you don't have to strip it but you do have to scrape any loose paint. Then clean it really good. If there is a sheen you want to dull it by sanding a little or the new paint might not bond too good. Make sure you use a paint designed for decks.
