Water Drain from Patio Ideas NEEDED

Are the pavers exposed from the side? If so, I'd try to remove some from underneath the curb (by hammer and chisel) every 3 or 4 feet so the water had a place to go. At least for a short-term solution.

    foundation crumbling

Hey, that looks pretty good! I ended up using something called "Chem-seal"... it is a concrete-based paint that breathes. I was told that water-proof paints trap moisture in the foundation brick, which is what causes spalling. With Chem-seal, it allows the moisture to enter and leave freely...

    Cape Cod Insulation

I'll have to ask my friend about that. He also deals with mold inspection, and water vapor issues certainly fall within that realm. Without being any kind of expert on it myself, I would agree that poly foam is a lot better than batting, but also a lot more expensive when getting R-value bang...

    Cape Cod Insulation

I was talking with my inspector friend and have another thought about this worth a mention... if there are currently no soffit vents, then why not just insulate the entire underside of the roof? You won't need ventilation that way, much like a cathedral ceiling. For areas where there is no...

    Cape Cod Insulation

If the slopes are filled and sealed, then there is no convection through them. But I think I see what you are saying, that the heat, if trapped, may transmit through the roof, causing the shingles to diminish quicker. My roof is fairly new, I have decent ventilation (soffit to ridge)...

    crack filler?

I'm not really sure if this should be a masonry question or a landscaping question, but I am looking for a product that I can use to seal the cracks between concrete walkway and landscaping bricks, or even between separate concrete slabs where weeds can grow. Any suggestions?

    Cape Cod Insulation

Company #2 is much more congruent with all that I have learned about insulation. I have a neighbor/friend who is a weatherization consultant/inspector... he has given me tons of advice. I have read up on it as well and, in the newer books, the authors are saying the same things that he is. That...

    should I insulate the floor

By recommendation of a weatherization consultant (who is fortunately a neighbor of mine), I insulated my crawlspace this winter. The walls were done with four inches of foam sheeting Since the floor above the crawlspace is living space, I did not need to insulate the ceiling. Also, I removed the...

    Side walk replacement

http://www.houserepairtalk.com/f17/filling-void-concrete-10224/ And since this post, I have gotten a bunch of posts in my thread. (Mtowner, sorry for hijacking your thread, but it was worth it ;))

Filling in a void with concrete

OK, I finally have some time to get back to this. Thanks for all criticisms () and suggestions. As time is not in my favor, I did contact a small-repair concrete guy in town to get a quote, but he was too busy to connect with me when I was available. I figured that I can and will...

    Side walk replacement

There is some good info in this thread that I will find handy when I do a similar task soon... I just wish I could get replies like this to questions in my threads.

Filling in a void with concrete

I moved some stuff around in my photo bucket account and saw that some pics disappeared from this thread. For some reason I cannot edit the thread starting post, but I could this post... this post has all the questions I need answered anyhow. If anyone can answer these questions quickly I'd...

Filling in a void with concrete

Well, the idea is to get the water to follow the same path as does with what is already there around it. I added a new picture to show what I am talking about/thinking of doing... The Yellow line represents the border of area that will be contiguous with the driveway and level. The red line...

Filling in a void with concrete

This summer I rearranged all of the brick around the front landscaping. There were two adjacent corners, and with my new design, I just loped the corners off and made a 45-degree angle across instead. In doing so, I now have a void that needs to be filled in. In the first pic, I am looking at...

    foundation crumbling

I finished up the project a couple months ago. Here's what I did: -I dug out around the foundation wall -stripped off as much paint as I could with gel stripper and abrasives -cleaned/prepped the wall -applied a coat of Chem-seal ...dried over night... -applied second coat. I wish I took a pic...

    foundation crumbling

Thanks, Christee. I am pretty sure I mentioned it already, but if I haven't I bought the place a year ago and have installed drains since. The downspouts on two corners are connected to a french drain that goes out into the yard. It did it myself, but I am sure it meets any professional...

    foundation crumbling

Which really doesn't help me figure out what to do. I've read up on stucco some... turns out, it too becomes damaged over time and requires repair. So is the advantage that the stucco sacrifices itself for the health of the wall that it's covering? Also, applying stucco seems like something best...

    foundation crumbling

Surprisingly, it is hard to get a straight-forward answer that is universally accepted. I've done my research only to find that there is too much varying advice about the matter and the only reason I bothered creating a post about it... but even within this very thread I am getting conflicting...

I also meant to ask... the Valspar paint is it's own primer, thus not needing a primer before application?

    foundation crumbling

The gal at the local Sherwin-Williams told me that I can paint over the pre-existing paint with a latex masonry primer so long as it is latex as well. I did the rubbing alcohol wipe test and it is indeed latex. I still scraped off any loose paint and sanded it down quite a bit with a steel...
