    thick plaster swirls on sheetrock

Thanks for the well wishes. Best I can do for photos at the moment is here's a shot of the faux brick sticking out of nearly every wall. Tough to see how thick the plaster is but take my word for it, don't get close.

    thick plaster swirls on sheetrock

The owner built the place from scratch so the plaster is stuck on unpainted paper. Again, the closing's soon and only then I'll see if the thickness will be enough to crack it off. In some of the space my plan is to panel over the rock, so even of the paper's marred or torn, I'll be able to...

    thick plaster swirls on sheetrock

Thanks ALL for the replies. I was afraid this is what I'd hear, that I'll need to re-rock the place. It's built in 1980 with attention to structure, 2x6 studs, etc and I have little doubt the wiring is fine. Only the walls are really ugly now. Too bad. It's a very inexpensive weekend place...

    thick plaster swirls on sheetrock

We're closing on a small house soon that the current owner built. He smeared thick compound in swirls over nearly all the sheetrock and embedded fake brick face into the lather. If there's a way to scrape off the 1/2" of crud off the surfaces I'll do the work rather than replacing all the...

    A/C placement

Hey Steve, didn't want to leave you hanging. Actually, it hasn't happened...yet. The is at a house we use on weekends and occasionally rent out. It hasn't happened yet because our experience is that A/C is not needed except for the rare hot days. It's in Catskill, NY. My goal's been to...

    A/C placement

For those of you who've checked this out, I'm proceeding with the doing it. I've thought about it carefully; since the A/C vents to the outside and cutting through the exterior wall is not a difficult task, plus the duct run is short, I see no problem. But that's just me. Thanks.

    A/C placement

I've got a typical enclosed space under a staircase adjacent to our living room. There's a full sized door to the space. I'd like to cut into the outside wall of the house and place an A/C in a sleeve, then duct across the 3.5 ft width of that enclosed space into the living room. Do you see...

    post question

I added a 4 x 18 deck to an existing screened porch that's been attached to my house for many years. I used three 16x16x10 cement blocks in the corners and center on which the new double 2x6 sill plate now rides, then attached decking board "extensions" to the new deck and attached the "new...

    single-pole double-throw switch

Actually, I decided to run another separate line for the A/C. Thanks very much for the insight.

    single-pole double-throw switch

This is a 12/3 cable. My plan for the 120v A/C WAS to use the white wire as neutral and of course the copper as ground AND to use the SPDT to split one of the hot wires which goes to the baseboards in winter and use that "split off" leg for the 120v A/C in summer. BUT, I decided to run a...

    single-pole double-throw switch

I just ran a 12-3 line for 240v baseboard heaters and now want to use one of those lines for an A/C in the same room during the summer. The switch is really expensive, but is there anything wrong with using an in-line SPDT 20amp switch that CLEARLY would cut half the power to the heaters...

single vs double pole for 240v

Hey, thank you.....no need to fry.

single vs double pole for 240v

I recently installed two 240v baseboards in series with a 240v double-pole wall thermostat. Today I saw a 240v heater that says it uses a single-pole TS. I'm doing the same thing in another room and want to know is that possible? Thanks

    Hey....thanks for the advice.

neutrals and grounds on same bar

It's the main service panel...thanks for the advice.

    shed roof material

I've got a old 8 x 20 shed with a flat roof in good shape except the old tar paper is pretty beat and leaks in one place. I saw a roll of material that's crack and peel water proofing and was told it's terrific. Can't recall the name. It's got an adhesive "built in". Can that be put on a...

neutrals and grounds on same bar

I moved into an older home that seems wired fine, ample power and no problems. However, I noticed the grounding bar in the panel has both the ground and neutral wires attached to it. I read somewhere that they should go to separate bars...is it a problem? Thanks.
