    Heats out, thermostat singed

Well, I know this is a long shot, but a bird did get in my heat pump last night and got chopped up. Could that have anything to do with it? They did happen during the same time frame. Nope, not replaced yet

    Heats out, thermostat singed

So, I wake up and my HVAC system isn’t working. The thermostat was off and the breaker not tripped. I take off my thermostat from the wall and find this. What would have suddenly caused this to happen? And what’s the fix? 11 year old house and unit.

    Can anyone identify this?

So, I tossed some rat poison pellets under my house at this exact spot about 6 months ago. Got under there today and it looked like this grainy stuff, which was still stuck together and not loose. Also with it was this random standing liquid, part of it black and part of it with black larvae in...

Noise coming from where floor meets the wall

Yeah, it didn’t help. Could be subfloor problem in carpeted room. Gonna use the squeak no more carpet solution in that room and see if it helps that and both rooms

Noise coming from where floor meets the wall

I got under the house and accessed the situation today. Seems some 1/2” pvc connected to the joists makes a loud noise when touched or moved under the house. Duct work seemed fine, made no noise when pushed on or touched. Think putting some more brackets on the joists to those 1/2” pvc’s could...

Noise coming from where floor meets the wall

I’ll get under the house and check it out. The noises are only present when the floor is walked on or around, however.

Noise coming from where floor meets the wall

I’ll check. You don’t think there enough contraction to have to put some extra support under that wall do you due to flexing

Noise coming from where floor meets the wall

I have access under my house via crawlspace. Think I could look for anything specific? All ductwork is visible underneath

Noise coming from where floor meets the wall

The wall in both of these photos is the same wall separating both rooms in the photos. The black circled area is where the popping sounds come from. The sounds were completely absent in the spring and summer but have came about since it got cool out and our heat started to kick on. Any idea of...

    Cracks in dry wall

I'm a little worried, though. I have one room and hallway in which the floors have a slight slope and in the adjacent room there is a small hump in the carpet. This hump can be felt when walked on but not visible with the naked eye

    Cracks in dry wall

Noticed some cracks above this window in m dry wall. Cracks are very thin. One is about a foot long the other about 6 inches. Any idea on the cause? House is 10 years old. Cracks have been there for a while now. They go straight up at a 90.

    Air filter

There's no way to attach it to the door

    Air filter

Yes it sucks the fresh air into it

    Air filter

What type of air filter does this use?? It's about 18x32 opening with the smaller hole intake. I have one of the cut to firs but I'm afraid it will be sucked back in the hole as there is not a lip at the top to catch a filter

    Cinder block foundations

Well, like I said there is some concrete in the holes. There has never been any water under the house as of yet.

    Cinder block foundations

So, what do you mean by sloping the cement that will fill the blocks? How would I do that?
  18. cb104

    Cinder block foundations

Yes. Covered in 6mm clear plastic, 6" up on the inside walls and all overlapping.

    Cinder block foundations

It is not offset on the inside, its flush. Once the crawl space door is removed, there is about a 3-4" drop then your on the crawl space ground. I'm sure it was built that way all the way around, but the topsoil covers it up except for the posted pics. The insides of the holes of the exposed...
