bella cera hand scraped hardwood flooring

Has anyone had a good or bad experience with hand scraped oak hardwood flooring? This particular brand is called Bella Cera. It is I believe privately labeled for Buddy's Carpet here in Dayton, OH. I am having a difficult time finding any consumer ratings on the product because of the unique...

    vacuum cleaners

Looking at a new vacuum cleaner. Need it to be light weight, maneuver well, and pick up well off of dense carpet. Trying to keep it under 22 pounds. Have looked at Hoover and Eureka under $200. I have also heard the Oreck sweeper is also really good but have not gone to that store yet...

any kitchen faucet brands to avoid?

We are looking for single hole faucets at Lowes or Home Depot and are wondering if there are any brands to avoid. So far we have seen Price Pfister, Moen, Kohler, and Delta faucets that match our needs. All of these models have a spray nozzle that pulls out and a single handle for controlling...

    testing a 4 way switch

I am putting up new cabinets and in the process moved a 4 way switch and broke it while removing the wires. I bought a new one. Now I think I may have put a cabinet screw through the wiring leading to the 4 way or have it hooked up wrong. I would like to test the circuit but do not have any...

    alternative to wirenuts?

I have seen some new devices that replace traditional wirenuts. The wire is pushed in the side of a plastic block. The other wire that you are extending goes into the other side. They look very easy to use, but are they as good as wirenuts?

Is there any hope of moving these pipes up through the floor joists? Would sisters against the joists be necessary if a hole is drilled through the joists? Thanks!

    rerouting wires

I have removed the header in my kitchen and have found six wires that that need to be rerouted. I can easily lengthen most of them and put them in journal boxes between the rafters, but where they pass by the top wall sill plate will be a problem. I will try to drill down through the plate for...

cutting a hole for an electrical outlet

We are rehabbing our kitchen. Our island has an electrical outlet at both ends just below the counter top. The new cabinets we are using have nice door panels that attach to the ends of the island cabinet base units. It is really dressy. My concern is where to locate the electrical outlets on...

    grout question

We have completed the grout and have buffed off the remainder of the residue. Should we wipe the floor with a damp cloth to get all the residue off before putting down the sealer? It has been 24 hours since the grout has been put down. We plan on using some high priced stuff from Home...

grout requires more water than stated

I am using Laticrete Spectra SET mortar for our kitchen tile. The directions call for 5.5 quarts of water for each 50 pound bag of mortar. That is way too dry. My 1/2 drill will barely turn it let alone get to the point where it is usable. I have been using half a bag and dividing the water...

    fiberglass finish fiasco

I got a really nice fiberglass entry door from Lowes. The installations was great! We bought fiberglass because we wanted to finish the inside in a faux wood grain. I looked at the spec sheet, and they suggested using a gel stain for the job. I bought a can of Minwax Gel Stain. I really...

Safe removal of mirror glued to wall

I have a remodelling project in our bath that requires the removal of an 82" x 42" 3/16ths mirror that is glued to the wall. I plan on using a glass cutter to divide the mirror into thirds or quarters, covering the cuts with duct tape, and removing the mirror in smaller sections using a...
