    Re-bending Flashing

Villa, this reminds me of another story. Years ago, when I was a firefighter in a fairly wealthy community, there was a big party going on with two Lifeflight helicopters on display, along with their crews being there, and other hospital dignitaries. An emergency call came in for the copters...

    Garage Heater

Mogie, the Williams units I have are not radiant, they have a two speed fan motor in them that blows hot air out of the bottom front section of the unit. It is made to either mount between two studs on 16" centers, or mount it on the wall surface, between two studs. They are 7' tall by 14" wide...

    Re-bending Flashing

Funny stuff. I've owned several siding brakes over the years since 1978. Sided a lot of houses, bent a ton of flashing for all different applications, long before smart phones came out. Never once had to get a computer to tell me to bend a piece of flashing less than 90 degrees to get it to shed...

    Garage Heater

No, not at all. If your garage walls and ceiling are insulated, it will heat up in 10-20 minutes and then just cycle on and off occasionally depending on how cold it is outside and what you set the temperature at. If you have any questions when you go to install it, feel free to ask. Mike Hawkins:)

    Garage Heater

Mogas, the ventless heaters are the ones that throw more humidity into the air. The direct vent unit has a sealed combustion chamber that draws in outside air for combustion. So it doesn't take any air out of the inside and most importantly, being sealed, it is safe to use around in a garage...

    Garage Heater

Mogas, I would definitely go with the vented heater. Being a retired firefighter, I'm not a fan of non-vented heaters. If you get one of the direct vents like I mentioned above, you won't be sorry. Very quiet, quick recovery, and very comfortable to work in. 62,000 btu input. Also they are easy...

    Storing lawnmower

Jeremy, depends on the type of equipment. If its a riding mower or something with a larger built in tank, then using the stabilizer is a good idea. The newer versions of Stabil are made for the modern gas with alcohol in it. If its a small trim mower where you can run it out of gas, then go...

    Garage Heater

The Wiliams units are just under $1300. The three spaces is heat are 24 x 24' 26 x 28' and 28 x 36 with a cathedral ceiling. All three areas have either R11 or R 13 in the walls and R19 in the ceilings. Mike Hawkins:)

    Garage Heater

Mogas, I have three separate garages/shops I heat occasionally in the winter here in northeast Ohio. In each one I use a direct vent gas furnace made by Williams. They are about 7' tall and 14" wide. Easy to mount, combustion chamber draws air from outside and is completely sealed off from...

Need some advice on kitchen cabinet height

When I built a house for my mother, who's about 4'-10", I lowered the upper cabinets a couple of inches for her. There's a cathedral ceiling in the room, so no soffits. No one has ever noticed the difference. Mike Hawkins

    New siding is splitting

Got any pics DE? What kind of nails was he using? I'd be curious to see where on the panels he nailed. Mike Hawkins

    Drill Doctor

I have the Drill Doctor Jr. I think it was around $69. It is very simple to use and does work very well. I forget what the smallest bit you can put into it, but the small ones usually break before they get dull.It makes it easy to maintain the proper angle and most important, keeping both sides...

    Steel bathtub repair

SS, if your tub was that rusted around the drain, I would replace it while you have everything apart. It's another few hundred bucks, but it will be a lot more if you try the fix and put everything else up and then the tub has to be replaced. Mike Hawkins:)

    more power in attached garage

Don't be cheap about it and burn your garage or your equipment up. I put a large addition on my second garage, which already had a 100 amp subpanel in it. I put a second 100 amp subpanel in the new addition. I have a 50a tigwelder, 30a compressor, 20a lift, lights, outlets, etc. No problems at...

    Painting old sheet rock/ugh!!

If the bubbling persists, might be easier to go over the walls with 1/4" drywall, glue and screw, tape and finish. Had almost the same situation in an old 1840's farmhouse I did a lot of work on. Pulled off paneling and had old plaster and lathe underneath that had a lot of cracks, too many to...

    Garage Insulating Question

Redskin, you could do it in steps like you mentioned, but until you do the ceiling, any heat you try to put in there will go right up and out. Not sure what you are using for insulation, but here in northern Ohio, I use fiberglass bats for 2 x 4 walls rated at R-13, for the ceiling fiberglass...

Garage door does not open (trolley stuck?)

So everything is working well now? Mike Hawkins

Garage door does not open (trolley stuck?)

Alu, you should be adjusting the limits with the door hooked up. Never tried to do that without the door being attached. Hard to say exactly what the problem is because I haven't seen what you are doing. Mike Hawkins

    Garage door bar

First off, if your torsion shaft is moving back and forth, it shouldn't be. The drums limit the travel if they are properly tightened and the bearing plates are tight. Here's the sequence of how it should be set up from scratch: Start with unwinding the tension on the spring. If you don't know...

Garage door does not open (trolley stuck?)

Alu, the door is traveling too far in the down position. Find the adjustment screw on the side or back that shows a little picture of the door going down and see which way the arrow in the picture is telling you to turn it. If you turn it in the opposite direction, the door will not travel down...
