    Paver patio/walk & water

    We have a new paver patio with a walk over to our deck. When we get heavy rain a portion of the walk is under an inch or two of water while it's raining. Will this eventually cause issues with the integrity of that section of the walk?

    What's the reason for the huge increase? I was given a ballpark of around $7k which I thought was high for a 1,900 sqf. house.

    Cheap Apartment Stuff

    I like some of the things IKEA sells. The designs are smart and functional and generally inexpensive because it's knock-down, meaning you need to assemble it yourself. Some of the furniture is pine so it's susceptable to dings and scratches.

    Hard water?

    We have very hard (calcium mostly) water in our area. I know it caused issues with my recently replaced hot water heater, but besides the buildup I see on faucets am I doing more serious damage by not installing a water softener?

    nice, small flowering tree for garden area?

    I don't have any recommendations for you but I would suggest avoiding the flowering plum. It's an attractive tree in my opinion with it's dark red leaves but once established it grows too darn fast.

    Natural pond

    Keep the water moving. Mosquitos don't like moving water. If your pond is small enough the movement produced by your circulating pump may be enough. There are also products called dunks that you put into the water to keep them away.

    Replacing Heat Pump

    Our heat pump is about 15 years old. The last couple of years it seems that the auxiliary heat comes on quite often so I think it's getting close to replacement time. Our house is approx. 2,000 s.f. The current system is a Trane. I would appreciate any thoughts on who the best manufactures...
