    Bathroom Renovation - Tub Choices

Hi all, We are planning to remodel our main bathroom. We are shopping for an alcove tub. We thought Kohler right away. But, I've been hearing a brand called Kingston Brass that might be worth considering. Any thoughts/experience with this brand? Our budget is $500 to $1100. Willing to spend...

Crown Moulding Gaps up to 3/4"

Hi everyone, I'm having my kitchen renovated. The contractor noticed my ceiling is a bit off in a spot. There would be a gap between the top of the crown and the ceiling. From the part where it's flush, a gap starts which progresses up to ~ 3/4" in a spot. It's about a three foot stretch of...

    Close gap near latch

Hi Joe & SnS, I've been here only 2 years now. It's been like that since I have been here. I think it is bowed; I checked against the jamb w/a 4 ft level and there is a gap; widest is right over the latch plate. I tried to shim the middle hinge and it didn't help much. The door is tight when...

    Close gap near latch

Hi everyone, I'm attempting to weatherproof the entry door in my washroom area. There is a problem at the center, right near the latch/strike-plate area; the gap is pretty severe - see photos. The door seems pretty straight otherwise. Any suggestions to close the gap? THANKS! Mike

What would you do with this?

Thanks - I didn't know they could cut - I'd need to create the template. Thanks for the tip!!

What would you do with this?

Thanks! What stuff will burn? That's not an outside wall; outside wall is to the left. I had a plumber in yesterday to do some work to add a utility sink. I pointed this out and asked him about going through the wall and down instead; he said going through the floor like that is standard. It...

What would you do with this?

I moved in 2 years ago. We are starting to renovate our laundry room. See photo; the previous owner did a very rough (butcher) job running the black pipe and dryer vent from the basement. You can see the large holes and missing tile. I'd like to fill the gaps and make it look better...

    Basement Seepage

"When the contractor said you had a drain on the inside, did he check how well that was working before he closed it up, what did he think of the sump." He didn't fully assess the system; he only mentioned that it was apparent that water wasn't getting to the sump effectively. We didn't look...

    Basement Seepage

I just attempted to scrape some out. It's actually not totally soft. Rather it's a mix of soft parts and some are very hard; like someone poured concrete in there. Is there any reason someone would do this? I am thinking I want to chip all of it out to the bottom of the liner.

    Basement Seepage

From the floor to the bottom, ~25". That's to the point where that grey stuff starts. Not sure how deep that grey stuff is; it's sort of soft; I could scoop it out; any idea of what it might be? I did some research and the brownish stuff I called 'dirt' actually looked like what is called...

    Basement Wall Question

Hi all! In my basement, under the main part of my home is almost a perfect rectangle; the one exception is a part right under/behind the front door where the wall is built out a bit - see photo; any idea why a builder might have built the basement this way?

    Basement Seepage

Thanks for the responses! I would like to clean it up and fix this one spot from the outside. Is there anyway to clean the efflorescence and water stains on the block? I thought about dying it a dark grey; I say dye because I think it's better to keep it porous; I don't want to paint it because...

    Basement Seepage

Hi everyone - I am new here! I moved into my home one year ago; I live in Northern New Jersey. My basement is fairly large. There is one spot on the floor right at the wall/floor seam. This is the ONLY spot where it gets wet. It is right underneath where the front steps are. This pic was taken...
