    What are my options?

Thanks, Daryl. I'm taking pictures as we go along, so maybe I can figure out how to post them here:)

    What are my options?

Would there be any advantage to going with the 4000 watt unit? Our electrician mentioned something about a larger unit working "less hard" to heat the space therefore possibly less electricity used? I know 3000 will keep the room warm enough, I'm concerned with energy ($$$$) usage????

    Enclosing garage door

I am enclosing an existing garage door opening to make it a wall with a window in it. I know how to frame it out, and I know that the exterior side of the wall will be finished with "carsiding" (tongue and groove) to match some other wood on the garage. Do I put something (plywood? OSB?) on the...

    What are my options?

Thanks, Daryl. I'll check with my electrician about installing a wall thermostat. I appreciate your feedback!

    What are my options?

Okay, after months of research, I think we're going with the Q-Mark LFK 304 wall heater, 3000 watt. Does anyone have any feedback regarding this brand?

    What are my options?

Thank you all for your input. I think I will probably go with a wall unit, the main goal is just to keep the contents of the room from freezing when it gets really cold. I have to have some electrical work done out there, so I will see if the electrician has any recommendations also. I'll have...

    What are my options?

Daryl, any particular brand/make/model you would recommend? I looked at a few on-line, and they said to mount them 8-9 feet high??? My ceilings in that room are only 7 feet, but I think I would prefer a wall unit as opposed to baseboard heating. How much clearance would I need around it...

    What are my options?

Thanks for the help Paul. I'm mostly concerned with keeping the room above freezing during the cold winter months. Mostly 45-50 degrees, with maybe once or twice a week turning the heat up to 65 when I was spending time in it. I know absolutely nothing about baseboard heaters. Are they safe...

    What are my options?

I need something that I can keep on all the time to maintain a constant temperature; would the ceiling/wall-mount units work best for that?

    What are my options?

I am planning to enclose a portion of my concrete-block garage as a studio, and I need to be able to keep the temperature inside the room around 45-50 degrees during the winter (central Illinois). Assuming I insulate it really well, does anyone have any idea of the best way to heat this space...

    Pex pipes?

Thanks for the replies. We are getting city water way out here in the boonies so that's why the new plumbing. The water company will run it from the road into the house, but from there on it is our problem. There is some copper and some pvc and some galvanized pipes currently under there...

    Pex pipes?

We need to replace our old galvinized plumbing and I've heard some stuff about Pex. Has anyone here used it? Is it better/worse than other options? Easier/harder to work with? Cheaper or more expensive? Any info/opinions would be most appreciated. Thanks!

    Concrete slab vs. crawlspace?

Thanks for the replies. We really wanted a basement but cost as well as the fact that there seem to be drainage issues (the corn fields behind us often have six to eight inches of water standing on them for days after a hard rain) are discouraging us from that route. Any way we go, we like the...

    Concrete slab vs. crawlspace?

Since my poor old house is non-repairable, we're going to have to build new....looking at a Morton Building shell that we would finish interior. SO how do we decide on a foundation? We want as inexpensive as possible, but still good as far as energy efficient and ease of future repairs, etc...

    Morton Building?

Thanks for the replies. I think the modular homes are beautiful and well-built these days (I picked up some brochures a few months ago) but I have no idea of price. I just assumed they'd be a lot more expensive than finishing off a steel building interior myself. Guess I need to get some prices...

    Morton Building?

Since we've come to the sad decision that no amount of home improvement will fix our poor old saggy foundation-less home, we need to explore other options. Theoretically, we could/can live in this house for a few more years but it has major structural issues and ancient plumbing, etc. that will...
