    The Glass Door Won't Slide

We have an 8' sliding glass door that is very stiff in the 40*-50*F range of temps. I've had 3 door companies look at it and other than spray lube on the track, say that nothing could be done. To me, it looks as though the track is bowed outward in the middle and the ends are butted up tight...

With what do I lube this slider

I had to go back and see if I had misinformed everybody. The door is 4 feet wide - 48 inches. That sounds closer to 100 pounds. Thanks for your input, Jeff !

With what do I lube this slider

Thanks folks!! I surely do appreciate all the comments and suggestions. I'll have to wait for my son-in-law to get a friend to wrestle that beast of a door. I guess that laying the door on its side is the safest way to do this. Thanks again, all.

With what do I lube this slider

I have a 4' wide slider in my new-to-me house that probably hasn't seen lubrication since it was installed 20 yrs ago. It was stiff along its entire length so we cleaned the track and then, lubed and cleaned the rollers, as best I could, with Kroil. I sure cleaned the rollers all right. Now I...

Fridgidaire dishwasher whose door spring is creaking

We have a Fridgidaire dishwasher whose door spring is making a creaking noise when closing the door. Not opening the door although, that has changed pitch as well. Due to a disability I am unable to get down on the floor to inspect the offending helix but I sprayed so silicone back in there a...

    Broken Bulb

:Success!!! And, I remembered to unplug the fridge before starting.:) I guess you don't get to become old without learning a few things. A little OT here but, when the wife is helping me these days (since my disability) she observes the set up, the precautions that I'm taking in process and...

    Broken Bulb

That's what I'm hoping for. Go in aggressively and collapse the sides. Thanks, I'll be on it first thing in the AM and after that my back should be wasted. Later, Chiz

    Broken Bulb

I've never seen a good way to remove a broken bulb from its socket. I have such a situation in our fridg and with a disabled back I can't spend a lot of time messing with the socket which is in the front of the box and faces the rear. I've never found the potato trick to work so that leaves me...

    Maybe too small an issue

Well, this is the second post so I'll pare it back. First of all, apologies for not making myself but from the replies I got I believe that I can work out the addition of solder to whichever part is spare. Secondly, the reason this is the second post is that I had to re-register but although I...

    Maybe too small an issue

Truthfully, I expected to see this when I used the "search" tool but, I didn't. I've noticed that every couple of years my 3-way socket switches get a little hinky - switching off, on, up one level or down one level. I usually replace the socket but I can't help think that I'm throwing out a...

    generator has no power

Hey there, generyac, welcome aboard! Do you think that he should try field flashing before he gets up to his armpits in the diagnosis? I've included it in an attachment and it's appears to be an easy enough process. Maybe it's just spitting into the wind but, at least it's free! Later...

A little help with hardware, please?

Hi folks, long time lurker and no time poster, here. We just brought our 20 year old, covered deck up into the no maintenance phase, now that our lives have switched to the constant maintenance phase.;) We had everything wrapped in vinyl or aluminum and composite deck boards. We put up some...

Puttying Crown joints and trim nail holes

Quick drying spakling compound. Test it on a scrap to be sure that there's no funky reaction - better yet, take the scrap piece with you and do the test while in store. It's not like you will be using half a can. I recommend the fast drying spakle solely for the color change indicating...

    Rx for bathroom - Ideas??

Hi folks, I have a '70s rancher with the bathroom at the end of the hallway and the builder decided to plaster the room after the cast iron tub was installed. Well, I hope that he didn't pay for the plaster job because it doesn't look like the finish coat was ever applied. I've had to use...

    Double wide with a leak

Thanks, inspector D. I wondered if that would void the warranty -LOL!! Yea, throw away "homes", for sure. Time is of the essence. It's raining hard here and if it gets to crtain level I fear seepage into the plywood sheating on the roof and into the interior. Could this happen or is it...

    Double wide with a leak

Maybe I'm not making myself clear so, let's try this. There is water trapped between the bubble and the and the inside glass. I need to get it out and seal the leak. I understand how to seal the leak and the hose is for detecting it but how do I get the puddle out of there?
