what to grow above septic drain field?

OK pardon me butting in, but grass and vegetation is good, trees are not? I have sticker bushes and tall grass on mine, it's kind of back in the woods behind the house. I usually whack it all down once a summer. But some vegetation is OK?

    oil furnace won't light

Okay, I got it. I pulled the burner assembly by lifting the transformer, and sliding the whole assembly out of the chamber. The front end of that assembly looked like someone dipped it in oil and rolled it around in the dirt. I hit it with a wire brush lightly, and burned a lot of the crud...

    oil furnace won't light

I do have fuel, about 50 gallons per the stick. The motor spins and according to the fog, fuel is being pushed to the burner chamber. What I DON't know is if the electrodes are actually sparking. The transformer is sparking, I lifted it a bit during a forced start, and it was like out of a...

    Circulator pump questions...

I was wondering about that as well. The pipes are definately not covered, will that foam stuff melt or something like that? I would think not, but thought I'd ask. I guess you just cover and tape, or will zip ties work better? I give that thermostat a look as well, I have burned myself once...

    Circulator pump questions...

I have a system where the hot water tank is just a storage advice, meaning it's not wired for electric or plumbed for gas, the boiler does the heating. I have in line for the water (potable) a circulator pump that keeps water flowing through the system for quicker hot water at the taps. Now...

no water heater/summer winter hookup ?

That's how my house is set up. We do have a hot water heater but it's not hooked up to electric or gas, meaning it's just there for hot water storage, and circulates through the boiler in a loop until we need it. It does seem to use a lot of oil to heat water and keep it that way, but I think...

    Here's a good one

Yeah, actually I went to bare wires on the far end. (then capped them) Still no real answer on the mystery. With nothing plugged in, I still pop fuses. WTH? There are only 2 boxes on this circuit and I took them both off line.

    Painting over panelling?

Okay, Alaskan winters are dark, long and cold.(30 below this A.M) ...... She says, living/dining rooms are like a cave and wants lighter walls. Barring tearing out and re-doing, can panelling be painted? If so, how?

    Wallpaper: The work of satan

I re-did the bathroom, and had some wallpaper to take off. It was old, and looked like c&*^. I grabbed and pulled and got most of it off, then began to paint. The primer went on, then I noticed the wall was bubbling in spots. Turned out I only got the top layer of wallpaper off, and the...

    Here's a good one

I have an older home with attached garage. I keep the freezer out there, and it was plugged into an outlet. I came home from fishing (caught a couple HUGE halibut) and the freezer was off. Checked all the usual and went to replace the fuse at the panel. Unscrewed old, screwed in new, same...

G'morning to you all, like the title says...a little insomnia. Never posted to the site before, and it felt like a good time to do that. It's winter in Alaska, and about 30 below outside right now. I did surf the site a bit and found the cool free stuff from the sites PaPaDan pointed to...
