    Clean, caulk tub surround

I had best luck with a mineral spirits soak, finger nail (blades scratch) and a huge eraser to get every last bit of silicone off. Then never use silicone again

Pilot flame adjustment on AO Smith?

Can the pilot flame size on AO smith GVR 40 100's be adjusted? I see a set screw near the pilot gas port which might uncover a pilot adjustment screw below it? Ive cleaned the ceramic flame arrestor again, but still continued to have the pilot go out after the gas valve was satisfied and shut...

    Seasonal Truss lift, cracks CPS

16" is the max joist spacing for any cbu product for which I've seen specs. I would need to add more 'truss' or support somewhere. which would be a good idea for the tile area. 5/8" rock is what code wants here. And its not a steam shower.

    Seasonal Truss lift, cracks CPS

Here's a pic of the rock which will need repaired when the old shower wall (chase) is removed. Many nailers would be needed and could only be fastened to the trusses to patch where the wall plate was. I plan on tiling the ceiling in the shower and need 5/8 rock for that anyway (1/2" existing...

    Seasonal Truss lift, cracks CPS

I need to refinish the drywall ceiling in my bathroom after patching a small area where a chase was. It has a truss roof system above it. 24" on center with 1/2" drywall. I need to know the best way to do this. My plan was to nail new drywall over the existing drywall and start from scratch...

    Pressure Washing Vinyl Siding

surfactants (soaps) can degrade your house wrap. I plan on cleaning by hand to keep the soaps on the vinyl only. I found the below here. http://www.umass.edu/bmatwt/publications/articles/housewraps_feltpaper_weather_penetration_barriers.html There was speculation that surfactants (soaps)...

Extending J channel or starter strip nail flange higher? Or short screws?

I ended up installing alum F channel on the house and used vinyl soffit since its over the garage. Drilled and nailed the vinyl soffit to the bottom edge of the plywood T 1-11 siding after cutting off 3/8". Cutting off the 3/8" leveled the T 1-11 (sagging 1/2" over the garage) and also removed...

Extending J channel or starter strip nail flange higher? Or short screws?

I tried a #8 screw. And even though the diameter of the threads are larger than the vinyl slot. It still slides back and forth easy. inspectorD.. Take a look at the B&B picture. It lays almost flat on the sheathing compared to vinyl clapboard. So I need a head which doesnt stick out much...

Extending J channel or starter strip nail flange higher? Or short screws?

Thanks all. After looking closer at the cantilever soffit over the garage. Iv found it drops more than 1/2" over the door. So if I furr it I would have to shim and level it so it was level with the bottom of the outside wall siding. Pain in the a##. And I like the hollow look and...

Extending J channel or starter strip nail flange higher? Or short screws?

I have a cantilever first floor which overhangs the basement 1 foot. The 70's home has old T1-11 siding which hangs 2 1/4" lower than the existing 3/8" plywood soffit nailed to the bottom of the joists on the exterior cantilever. My problem is that when I install my board and batten vertical...
