5 year old home.
Replacing the *acrylic surround.
Tub and surround in good shape.
*Not certain it's actually acrylic.

Would it be penny wise and pound foolish to not replace the tub? I estimate about
a $450 tub and $350 labor = $800.
I will be doing the demo but not the install.
Drain is accessible from below in the basement.

I'm in the same boat. I'm just going to replace it with a new tub. I'll get my money back when I sell the house.

At $450 for the tub, that price suggest an acrylic, so, if the existing isn't damaged, and you're considering a tile surrounds, think of the add-on replacement, were the existing to become damaged/deteriorated, in the future.

Were it I, I would install a KOHLER cast Iron, because they've maintained the glazing standards.

i would not go cast iron, they can be very heavy , are you a weight lifter? we used to hire moving companies to deliver the cast iron sink to the job .

In the 60's, in LB, CA. we used a plumber from South Dakota who would stand cast iron tubs on end and immerse himself in the tub and carry it up the stairs of 2 story buildings, only requiring assistance at the top, to move it on to the landing.2 of us would move it into, and set it in place.
