what type and thickness of plywood is recommended to use for the backboard when mounting a new electrical panel and is a piece of fire rated drywall required to be mounted between the panel and the plywood to act as a fire rated barrier?

p.s. or fyi this question is with respect to an installation in Canada?

Fire rated drywall is not required. They removed that from the code many years ago. I don't think the code specifies a thickness. As long as it is strong enough to support the panel you will be fine. I would use 3/4 though. It give better surface for staples etc.
